Staying Safe Online
Staying safe online is an important aspect of keeping children safe at Fern Hill Primary School.
Across the curriculum, we explain and demonstrate to the children how to stay safe and behave appropriately online and to use the Zip It, Block It, Flag It rules.
We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material.
To successfully keep the children safe online, a strong home school partnership is essential. It is very important that parents deliver the same messages consistently to the children and discuss all aspects of staying safe online with them at home.
There are several organisations that provide information and support for online safety. As a starting point, we highly recommend Net Aware which offers a comprehensive guide to apps, games and social media sites.
It can be hard to know how to talk to your child about online safety. From setting up parental controls to advice on sexting, online games and video apps, we can help you to understand the risks and keep your child safe.
Thinkuknow is an education programme and resources platform from the National Crime Agency’s CEOP Command. It aims to help children get the most out of the internet and protect them from online abuse.
As a parent or carer you play a key role in helping your child to stay safe online. This site provides tips, advice, guides and resources to support you as you support your child to use the internet safely, responsibility and positively.
If you are worried about online sexual abuse or the way someone has been communicating with you or your child online, you can make a report to one of CEOP's Child Protection Advisors.
You can use this organisation's site to anonymously and confidentially report child sexual abuse content and non-photographic child sexual abuse images.
