Goodbye Easter Chicks!
After a week of watching the chicks hatch and grow, the children have all had the opportunity to handle them in their classrooms and say farewell. They have now left us to be re-homed.
Greek Day
In year 5 this week we had a fun day dressing up as Greeks. We got to paint our Greek vases, we made a yummy Greek salad and we made front covers for our Greek mythical stories. We even had a go at Greek dancing!

Can you help with our garden?
We are looking for some volunteers to come and help us get our garden Spring ready on Saturday 28th April 10-2pm with Mrs Dutra & Mrs Evans. Please pop the date in your diary and feel free bring the family - everyone is welcome!
See the attached poster below.
NUTS!
Please please do not bring ANY food or snacks containing nuts on to the school premises. This includes the playgrounds, school clubs, all lunches & snacks, and any gifts for staff. We have children in school with severe nut allergies and any nut traces left around school could potentially cause them serious harm. Thank you.
I would like to congratulate everyone in year 4 on their fantastic performance of Beauty and the Beast this week. All of the children and staff involved worked extremely hard to deliver an impressive performance.
This morning all of the children and staff paraded in their Easter bonnets. They demonstrated such creativeness as always. It's one of my favourites times of the year to see the whole school together supporting each another.
I would like to wish you all a lovely Easter break, and I look forward to welcoming you all back, refreshed and ready for the summer term.

Staff News
Shortly after the summer term begins, we will be wishing Mrs Tagg (Clover class teacher) well as she begins her maternity leave. We are very fortunate to be welcoming Mr Gardner back to cover until the end of the summer term to work alongside Mrs Farr. Mr Gardner has previously worked with us at Fern Hill.
We are delighted to announce that Miss Gillard, Bracken class teacher is expecting her first baby in August. Congratulations from all of us!
Today we said goodbye to Mrs Azad , a school meal supervisor who has been assisting the children at lunchtimes for 7 years. We wish her well.

Sports News
There have been a number of sports events recently:
Some of our year 3 girls attended a football festival at Kew AFC in Ham. It was great opportunity for some of the younger KS2 children, and they showed their team spirit as they played their four matches: winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 1. Well done girls.
Year 5 and 6 footballers took part in a football competition, with the winners going through to the London Youth Games. Fern Hill didn't make it through this time, but coming 4th out of 16 schools was a great achievement. Skills and sportsmanship were demonstrated throughout. Well done.
Sports Relief
Last Friday was Sport Relief 2018. The whole school took part in a skipping event. As well as having fun, the generous donation of £400 will be much appreciated by the charity.
The week set off with a KS2 all-comers football tournament. Straight knockouts (with a few penalty shoot outs on the way) saw a final being played between Fat Hamsters and The Sidemen. Congratulations to the Fat Hamsters - worthy winners, but a great competition from everyone who took part, and you raised £48 in the process.
Parent Governor Election
Fern Hill are looking to elect a new Parent Governor in May 2018 to commence the role in Autumn term 2018. If you are interested in the role, please refer to the letter attached below.
