Farewell
It is with much sadness that we have to say goodbye to Lisa Hawkins, our communications officer, as she finishes with us next Wednesday. Lisa has done a fabulous job in continuing to develop our website and newsletter, as well as keeping communication running as smoothly as possible within school. The whole Fern Hill team would like to wish her all the very best in her new venture.
Energy Council
Thank you to all children that entered William's logo design competition. The entries are on display in the school foyer to view. They will be judged and a winner announced next week. William has raised £10 to go towards the pollution hedge fund. We are very proud of his initiative.
Parent Survey
Thank you to those parents who have completed the survey. We have received 219 responses so far. As the survey closes on Wednesday 13th June this is your last chance to provide valuable feedback to the school in advance of the next academic year. Please take 3 minutes to complete. Many thanks.
Curriculum Evening
Thank you to those who made the effort to attend our curriculum evening this week. It proved a huge success with parents and carers who attended, the feedback has been extremely positive.
Mr Scott has spoken to attendees who quoted:
'I was blown away by how passionate every single teacher was about their area, I am so pleased to have been a part of the workshops. It really showed off how fabulous Fern Hill is’
'This was the most informative event that Fern Hill has ever had’
‘This evening has made me want to be involved in school life and my child’s learning even more!’
‘Such an inspiring evening’
We catered for the 125 attendees that had signed up, but were slightly surprised to host just 70. It takes some planning to offer these evenings to you so we would appreciate your commitment for future events.
We will be posting the presentations from the evening on our website soon, but please be aware that some areas will be tricky to follow as far more detail was given to those who attended.

Active Week, Sports Day…. and more
The last week before the half term break was a busy one, with the whole school having the opportunity for some extra sporting activities.
Active Week began with a busy day including football and multi skills and Tuesday saw dance and boxing being experienced. Chelsea Foundation came in to encourage some of the youngest children with football control and kicking skills, whilst Year 6 took some of their post-SATs energy out on boxing pads.
Wednesday was The School Sponsored Run for Reception through to Year 6 – running as many laps around the school to see what distance could be covered in a day. Thanks to all the parents who came to the run, and thank you for sponsoring your child – we will let you know the total amount raised, with the miles covered when all the money has been collected in next week. (Please do return your sponsorship forms and money as soon as possible.)
Nursery were busy with their Sports Day, thanks to all the parents who came in to cheer on the children and support their special event.
Skipping on Thursday was enjoyed by a number of school years with some children taking part in the demonstration assembly at the end of the day.
The week rounded off with KS1 and KS2 Sports Day on Dinton Field. The weather was kinder than previous years, in that the rain held off and the temperature stayed at a more reasonable level, making the day an enjoyable and exciting opportunity to take part in a range of fun activities, competing within their houses.
A selection of photos are shown below, and more will be put onto the gallery over the coming days.
One last piece of sporting news….. Sunday 3rd June was a busy day for 13 members of staff who took part in ‘Cancer Research Race For Life’ in Richmond. It was an incredibly hot day but the team ran, jogged, walked - with every combination of these- to complete the course, and in the process have raised over £2,553 in sponsorship money. If you feel you would like to make a donation, please go to https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/team/team-fern-hill. Many thanks.

Fern Hill Summer Fair – Saturday 16th June, 12.00 to 3.00 pm
A huge thank you for all your generous donations for the tombola! There’s always room for more on the tombola stall so please keep those contributions of wine, spirits, chocolates, children’s games and toys coming. All items can be left with the school office. Remember, the more donations we receive, the longer the tombola can run at the Summer Fair!
We will be holding a second tombola day next week on Tuesday 12th June to allow parents to bring in more donations. Please note this will NOT be a mufti day but a normal school uniform day. You can still drop off any more donations at the school office all next week as well.
Other reminders for the Summer Fair
