Home Learning
The year group Home Learning Grids for next half term are available now on your year group web page, along with the Curriculum Learning Map.
Term dates for the next school year from September 2020 to July 2021 are now available on the website here.
The children will return to school after the summer break on Thursday 3rd September 2020.
Tree Tops Notices
On Wednesday 6th November, Tree Tops After School Club will move from the Small Hall to the Nursery to allow the PSA to prepare for Fireworks Night. If your child is attending a Tree Tops session after school on Wednesday 6th, please collect your child from the Nursery, via the Nursery gates only, and not through school reception, the junior playground gates or Large Hall doors which will be locked. A member of Tree Tops staff will be available to open the Nursery gates for you. On Thursday 7th November, Tree Tops will be back in the Small Hall with collection as usual.
After School Club Notices
French Club will not have a catch up session on Thursday 12th December. The catch up session will be held on Thursday 21st November instead so French Club will run on both Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd of November at lunchtime. If your child attends French Club, please ensure they have a packed lunch on both days.
Please join us to see Maths Mastery in action!
As part of Maths Week, we are inviting parents and carers of children in Years 1 – 6 into school on Tuesday 12th November, to see Maths Mastery in action. You will have the opportunity to join your child in their classroom for a maths lesson where they will be practising one of the three key skills of the Mastery approach: fluency, reasoning and problem solving.
Your class teachers will run two consecutive classroom based sessions: the first from 9.20 - 9.45 am and the second from 9.50 - 10.15 am. To accommodate as many parents and carers as possible, we ask that you only attend one session in your child's class. If you have more than one child at Fern Hill, you may attend a session in each child's class (up to a maximum of two sessions). There will be an introductory talk with Mrs Stephenson, Deputy Headteacher, at 9.00 am in the Large Hall which we ask that you attend.
To register your place, please click on this link: https://forms.gle/zxzqXDt22ieSjssZ6
Please note that this isn’t a drop-in session. For safeguarding reasons, it is essential that you register to attend.
The sessions will take place in your child's normal learning environment. Due to the nature of an interactive lesson, other children, e.g. younger siblings, will not be able to join. We're sorry but this includes babies in arms or in pushchairs. Thank you for your understanding.
School Photographs
Individual and sibling photographs were taken earlier this month and your child will be bringing home their school photograph proof sheets today with details of how to order the photographs. Don’t forget to check their bag! The deadline for orders is Friday 8th November.
If you have any queries or do not receive a proof sheet for any reason, please contact our school photographer, Kans Bahara at In Time Photography, directly via email at info@inTime-Photography.com or by telephone on 07931 593 169.
Remembrance & The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal
On Monday 11th November, children will mark Armistice Day with a school silence at 11.00 am during assembly when they will be reflecting on heroes throughout history who have given up their lives for others. We’ll also be supporting the British Royal Legion’s Poppy Appeal next half term and our Year 6 children will be selling poppies before school every morning, from Wednesday 6th – Friday 8th November.

Children in Need – Wear it Yellow Mufti Day on 15th November
On Friday 15th November we will be supporting the BBC Children in Need appeal and raising money that will have a life changing impact on disadvantaged children throughout the UK. Children and staff are invited to come to school dressed in yellow.
Our Year 6 children will be at the gates on the morning of Friday 15th to collect donations for this wonderful charity and the PSA will be running a themed cake sale after school. During school, the children will be taking part in a Pudsey times table challenge – it is Maths Week after all!
As part of our fundraising efforts, stamped Pudsey wristbands and Pudsey pin badges will be available for the children in buy in school on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th November. Please send £1 in with your child if they would like to buy one. All proceeds will go directly to the BBC Children in Need charity which you can find out more about here.
PSA News and Events
Fireworks Night – extra tickets on sale this evening!
Tickets for our upcoming PSA Fireworks Night went on sale online last weekend and sold out very quickly. A number of tickets had been set aside for staff volunteers. All staff helpers have now bought their tickets, so we’re delighted to say we can put approximately 60 extra tickets on sale at 8pm tonight, Thursday 24th October. The link is the same as before; please follow this to buy tickets:
https://www.pta-events.co.uk/fernhillpsa/index.cfm?event=event&eventId=21582#.XaihaTHsZZU
We hope this will give those parents who missed out on tickets last weekend a final opportunity to purchase them. Please be aware that the website is likely to be very busy and these tickets will sell out extremely quickly. We suggest that you refresh the website if it becomes static. If the specific type of ticket you require (adult or child) is shown as sold out, please purchase the other type of ticket and then email fernhillpsa@gmail.com with your details and we will arrange the necessary adjustments.
Just a reminder that tickets are £7 for adults (including over 12s) and £3.50 for children under 12. Children under 3 go free but need their own ticket. Children under 12 with tickets will only be admitted when accompanied by an adult ticket holder. Please note there is a maximum allocation of six tickets per online order and a maximum of six tickets per family. This event is aimed at children who attend Fern Hill, their siblings, parents and primary carers only.
The event is on Wednesday 6th November (our first day back after half term) from 5.30 to 7.30 pm in the junior playground. Doors will open at 5.30pm with last entry being 6.30pm and the firework display beginning at 6.45pm. The event will conclude at 7.30pm. As well as our stunning professional fireworks display, there will be stalls selling mulled wine, beer, hot dogs, popcorn, toffee apples and other refreshments, as well as a brilliant selection of glow sticks.
Please note that no alcohol, sparklers or other fireworks may be brought onto site and tickets are not refundable. Please print your email confirmation – this is your ticket(s) – and bring this with you on the night. To reduce unnecessary waste, please bring a reusable cup for drinks.
Thank you and have a lovely half term.
