RSE Parent Consultation

In 2020, the Department for Education updated the national curriculum for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and we are in the process of revising our RSE policy to reflect the new statutory framework that we will teach from the summer term 2021.

Like many schools in Kingston and Richmond, we have chosen to use a scheme of work called SCARF to teach the statutory learning objectives around relationships and health, alongside additional learning objectives which include sex education. As a school, we believe that there are some important aspects of sex education that should be taught at primary school to help keep children safe and healthy.

As part of our policy review, we are considering what we should teach the children about relationships and health, including the non-statutory aspects, and it is important that we consult with our families.

Attached below are the following resources:

1. RSE Learning Objectives - a draft curriculum map, outlining the learning objectives that we intend to teach in each year group as part of our PSHE and RSE curriculum

2. RSE Parent Information Video Presentation - a video presentation to explain more about the statutory framework (a PDF version without the voice over is also attached below)

3. RSE Lesson Examples Video Presentation - a video presentation to explain how we will deliver the learning objectives, with practical examples of how the content will be taught in class.

4. Department for Education Guide for Parents

If you would like to provide feedback on the proposed learning objectives, please click on the link below and complete the form by Wednesday 17th March 2021.

RSE Parent Consultation Feedback Form

Please note that the objectives relating to sex education are not compulsory; you will have the right to withdraw your child from the non-science components of this aspect of their education should you wish to and we will provide you with more information on how to do this shortly. We do not need to know now if you would like to withdraw your child.

We will consider all the responses received via the google form as part of the RSE policy review and there will be a further opportunity for families to review the updated policy during the summer term.
