Pupil Photographs
Next week, our school photographer will be taking photographs of the children. The children should come to school looking smart and wearing the correct school uniform, including a school jumper or cardigan and, if they are in Years 3-6, a school tie. The photographs will be available to purchase — please look out for further information before half-term.

Parents' Evening Information
The Kingston Academy Open Morning
Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd October are INSET days at Fern Hill and the children are not in school. Pleiades, who run our outdoor PE curriculum lessons, will be hosting a holiday camp at school for Fern Hill pupils in Reception — Year 6. To book for just one day or all three, go to Pleiades’ website here.
Parents’ Evening will be held on Wednesday 13th October, 4:00 – 7:00 pm and Thursday 14th October, 1:45 – 6:00 pm
You can now book a ten-minute appointment with your class teacher through our Parents’ Evening System. The booking window will close at midday on Thursday 7th October. Virtual and in person appointments will be held on different days during the following times:
Wednesday 13th October, 4:00 – 7:00 pm — virtual appointments via video call
Thursday 14th October, 1:45 – 6:00 pm — in person appointments at school
Nursery will have a number of additional appointments available during the school day on Monday 11th October from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

On Thursday 14th October, school will close early at 1:30 pm for children in Reception through to Year 6. For further information, including arrangements for after school clubs and Tree Tops on this day, please see the letter attached below.
Kingston Riverside Re-imagined
We were very excited to have been asked to get involved in the Kingston Riverside Project with students from The Kingston Academy and a local Architects’ Practice who together have won a design competition to revitalise the area around Kingston Bridge. Today, the children met with the lead architect, Mr Weston, and the TKA students to take the project to its next stage, re-imagining the riverside as a vibrant scene, exploring the strengths and opportunity of the space and learning how to deliver a successful project outcome. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see a design process through the eyes of an architect.
Reception's Teddy Bears' Picnic
Thank you to our wonderful PSA for organising the very first event of the new school year, a Teddy Bears' Picnic for families in Reception. The children loved making bear ears and listening to Mrs Pettifer read a story while they ate their picnic snacks. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Mr Scott too!

Transfer to Secondary School
If your child is in Year 6, the closing date for applications to secondary school is 31 October 2021. You must use the eAdmissions website to apply online for your child’s place. Further information is available on our website here.
The Kingston Academy is holding a special Open Morning, just for Fern Hill pupils in Year 6, next Tuesday 5th October. Please note that this is a ticketed event — a link to reserve your place is included in the flyer attached below. Pupils must be accompanied by a parent or carer and will return to Fern Hill at 10:30 am directly after the event.

Second-hand uniform & Halloween costume sale
The PSA will be running a second-hand school uniform & Halloween costume sale on Friday 15th October after school. If you have any school uniform items in excellent condition, or any fancy dress costumes your children have grown out of, you can drop them off at school from Friday 8th October. The PSA will be collecting at tables just outside the main entrance of school. Thank you!
