The children looked fantastic today in their superhero costumes - what a great effort! Thank you for all your donations via our JustGiving page. There is still time to donate if you can; we'll keep the page open for the next few days.
Thank you to all our families who bought Red Noses yesterday too. Now that you’ve got your Red Nose, why not get creative and design a habitat for it with Comic Relief’s free LEGO® Build the Change fact sheets and activities?
World Poetry Day
Next week, we will be celebrating World Poetry Day at school. In 1999, World Poetry Day was designated by the UN as an official day of commemoration to promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry across the globe. The first World Poetry Day was held on 21st March 2000. The children will spend time in the classroom exploring both traditional and modern poetry and today, Mrs Stephenson and Miss Crook shared their favourite poems in Celebration Assembly.
Poetry Competition
In school, we are taking part in the Spark! School Book Awards Poetry Competition and asking the children to write a poem based on the cover (or blurb) of one of the books shortlisted for the Award. The children don’t have to have read any of the books (although that would be great of course!) – they can use the covers or titles to inspire them, or perhaps just write about the power of reading and what they love about it.
Their poem can be written in any style they wish: limerick, haiku, narrative, acrostic or free verse and it doesn’t need to rhyme! There will be prizes for the winners who will be announced in assembly and shared on the Google Classroom. The children will have the opportunity to work on their poem at school but they may also like to write and illustrate a poem at home. It should be no bigger than A4 size and handed to their class teacher by next Friday 25th March. We can’t wait to read them!
Lunches for the first half of the summer term are now available to order through ParentPay. The menu is attached below and on the website here. Information on how to order a lunch using ParentPay is published on our website here.
The order deadline for the first week back after the Easter break is midnight Sunday 9th April however, to guarantee your child’s choice of meal option, please place your orders for Tuesday 19th - Friday 22nd April by Thursday 31st March.
