The Great SPOTacular
Today was our Great SPOTacular, a fundraising day in support of the BBC Children in Need Appeal. The children looked fantastic in their spots! We joined thousands of schools across the country in a Moodbooster LIVE! session, hosted by Children in Need, and the children took part in a series of interactive and imaginative activities to have fun and boost their mood. Thank you to all the families who bought a Pudsey badge or keyring, gave via our JustGiving page or brought cakes at the PSA’s cake sale.
It’s not too late to donate! Just click on this link: Fern Hill’s Great SPOTacular Donation Page
We will let you know how much we have raised together next week.
Book of the Week: 'The Thief Who Sang Storms' by Sophie Anderson
"The Island of Morovia is shaped like a broken heart. The humans live on one side of the island, and the alkonosts - the bird-people - live on the other. But it wasn't always this way..."
Linnet is an alkonost and lives in the swamp with her father, Nightingale, and the rest of the alkonosts - banished from their homes by the humans after a terrible tragedy caused a bitter divide in their society. Linnet dreams of one day using her singing magic to heal the broken heart of Morovia and bring the humans and the alkonosts back together.
'The Thief Who Sang Storms' is a timely story of division and reconciliation - another beautifully lyrical and poignant tale from the author of 'The House With Chicken Legs' and 'The Girl Who Speaks Bear'.
Sports News - Football Frenzy at Fern Hill!
It’s been a busy week for the footballers at Fern Hill, with Year 2 kicking off (!) first.
They took part in a festival, hosted by Surbiton High School, which was aimed at children of all abilities having a go. They had great fun, playing a number of other schools, and developed their skills. Well done to the boys and girls who took part.
The girls of Year 3 and 4 had their ‘shot’ at success (really, Mrs Lawn, can we stop the puns!) on Wednesday, with two teams participating in a competition against the local Kingston Schools. The early morning sessions that they attended (thank you to the parents who brought them in for training) helped develop the teams’ spirit, and the Fern Hill Reds made it through to the final. Sadly, no silverware this time, but what a great effort from all of them.
Thank you, also, for all the parent support - whether that is helping with transport, the pre-school training sessions, or being the team’s cheerleaders. It is all very much appreciated.
More sports action to come - it’s going to be a busy Spring Term for us!

Pre-loved uniform and Christmas jumper sale - next Friday 25th November
A reminder that we will be holding a preloved uniform and Christmas jumper sale outside main reception after school on Friday 25th November. Please bring in your donations on Wednesday 23rd November and leave items on the trolley by the main school reception.
All items should be clean and in a good saleable condition. This time we are ONLY looking for donations of Fern Hill logo items including cardigans, round neck jumpers age 5-6, v-neck jumpers age 7-8, 9-10 and 11+ as well as PE kit of all sizes (no navy or burgundy items please), jackets/fleeces of all sizes and school book or PE bags. No white shirts or grey items please.
Any outgrown or unwanted Christmas jumpers would also be brilliant! Thank you!
PSA Festive Hamper Raffle - donations on Friday 2nd December
We will be collecting donations for our festive hamper raffle on Friday 2nd December. We're looking for donations in the form of non-perishable luxury/festive items to go in the hampers. You could donate wine, chocolates, fancy biscuits, pickles, jams/chutneys/preserves, tea, or perhaps a candle or some lovely toiletries (for him or her!), new small kids toys or similar.
If you have any business contacts who would kindly donate a luxury item to go in one of our hampers it would be very much appreciated (they’d also get some advertising to school parents as part of the raffle promotion). In return Friday 2nd December will be a mufti (non-uniform) day for the children but please, no team sports kits!
We also need a team of helpers who would be happy to sort through donations and make up hampers on Friday 2nd December after pick-up. Please let us know if you can help via the PSA WhatsApp group or your Class Rep.
And finally, if you have an old hamper you are happy to let us have please let us know! Thank you!
