Safer Internet Day 2023
Safer Internet Day 2023 will take place next Tuesday 7th February with celebrations and learning based around the theme: Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online.
Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees thousands of organisations getting involved to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. At Fern Hill, children in Years 1 through to 6 will have a special computing lesson focused on the Safer Internet Day theme.
The UK Safer Internet Centre offers lots of advice, guides and resources for parents and carers on how to keep their children safe online and use the Internet responsibility and positively including top tips, talking about difficult topics and even a quiz designed specially for 7–11 year olds around the challenges of life online.
World Book Day
Due to the planned strike action on Thursday 2nd March, we will be celebrating World Book Day in school on Friday 3rd March instead. This is the same day as the PSA's Bounce for Books event (see below) so please take this into consideration if your child will be dressing up as their favourite book character - they need to be able to move freely on the bouncy castle! Further details on World Book Day and Bounce for Books will be sent after the half-term break.
Book of the Week
'Martha Maps It Out' by Leigh Hodgkinson
Martha loves maps and in this exquisitely illustrated picture book she maps her place in the solar system, the earth, the city, and her flat, and learns something about herself in the process - an utterly enchanting journey. 'Martha Maps It Out' is a beautiful book, full of fascinating visual details, and perfect for Key Stage 1.

PSA Fundraising Goals
Thanks to your incredible support so far this year we have been able to fund raised flower beds, two table tennis tables for the juniors' playground, new values boards in the Large Hall and permanent wall wraps along the corridors. The designs for the wall wraps were based on ideas put forward by the children, and collated by the School Council, and they look fantastic...with more to be installed soon. Please do have a look when you are next in school.
The school' would now like to focus s wish list now focusses on enhancing the children's outdoor play with new equipment for the Nursery, floor markings and pictures for the infants' playground and fixed basketball hoops for the juniors' playground. Please do continue to support all our events so that we can raise the money to make all this happen...thank you!
