Reminders
Fern Hill Careers Fair
This week you will have received a letter from Mrs Stephenson regarding our Careers Fair which is planned for the afternoon of Thursday 22nd June. We hope to showcase a varied range of careers and would welcome volunteers from our parent community at the Fair, to talk to the children about the jobs that they do. If you can help, please let us know by completing this linked form. Thank you.
Your year group weekly news is published every Friday afternoon on your child's Home Learning Google Classroom. Don't forget the home learning activities for this half-term that are due by Friday 26th May for the Home Learning Showcase.
Cath Howe Book Launch
The author Cath Howe will be visiting us after the half-term break to share her new book 'My Life on Fire' with the children. We are very fortunate to have also been invited to the official book launch on Thursday 4th May at 6:00 pm at Waterstones Kingston. If you would like to attend, please RSVP by Sunday 30th April.
This week's Times Tables Rock Stars class winners are Rowan, Chestnut, Lime and Oak. Well done!
Our school photographer will be taking photographs of the children together in their classes on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th May. The photographs will be available to purchase after the half-term break. If you do not wish your child to be included, please email the school office by Friday 19th May.
Coronation of His Majesty The King & Her Majesty The Queen
On Friday 5th May, we'll be joining together with school across the country to celebrate the Coronation of their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla which takes place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May.
Children and staff are invited to dress up in red, white or blue (but definitely no football kits please!) or as kings or queens. In the classrooms, there will be lots of fun and creative activities themed around the Coronation, and we'll be marking the day with a special Coronation Big Lunch and procession.
Our whole school picnic lunch will take place in the juniors' playground with a similar format to the Big Jubilee Lunch we held last year. The children should bring a party packed lunch and Vicky and her team in the kitchen will be serving pizza and special coronation brownies too. Children in Years 3, 4 and 6 will have their picnic on the Astroturf so may like to bring in a picnic blanket or cushion to sit on.
Click here to find out more about the Coronation and all the ceremonial, celebratory and community events being staged over the extended bank holiday weekend.
Gardening Day
Thank you to all the families who join us last Saturday for our summer term Gardening Day.
"I would like to say a big thank to everyone who joined our Gardening Day on last week’s sunny Saturday. We had children from Reception through to Year 6 and extended families with grandparents, aunts and uncles. t was lovely to see the children having so much fun outdoors, and making so many new friends. Together, we achieved a great deal and have made our school grounds even more appealing and enjoyable. A special thank you to the PSA for providing very welcome refreshments too!"
~ Mrs Dutra
I hope the children have enjoyed reading the SPARK! shortlisted books that have been available in their classroom and in the library. We will be voting on our favourite book in each category after the half-term break but in the meantime we have launched the Spark Book Awards Pupil Competition in school.
The children can choose a favourite shortlisted book and be as creative as they like to capture their own personal response to it - by writing, drawing, sculpting, coding or even composing something individual and unique! Click on the link for your child's age category to find out more about the books and competition details: Nursery - Year 2; Year 3 & Year 4; and Year 5 & Year 6.
The deadline for handing competition entries to me or their class teacher is Tuesday 23rd May.
~ Mrs Rouillard, School Librarian

PSA News & Events
Cake Sales - support your class by baking/buying and volunteering!
This year, each year group cake sale has raised between £250 - £500. With two year group cake sales per year, this could mean up to £1,000 for your teachers to spend on much-needed extra resources for your children in the classroom.
This year the money raised has been used, amongst other things, for sets of books so that each child can have their own copy of the text they are studying, and topic boxes with an array of amazing resources for the children to look at and handle which bring the curriculum to life (for example Ancient Egyptian headdresses!). These additional resources really enhance our children's learning and they cannot be purchased without your generous support.
Cake sales are so important and we would really encourage you to contribute to your year group's sales, whether by baking or buying, and just as importantly, volunteering to sell the cakes on the Friday afternoons when your Class Reps ask for helpers. We understand that people's busy schedules can make this difficult, but please consider sparing an hour to help out - you really will make a huge difference to your child in their classroom.
Thank you!
