Don't forget that school closes at 1:30 pm on Wednesday 27th March for Parents' Evening
Last day of term
Thursday 28th March is the last day of the spring term. It is a mufti day and the children may wear their own clothes to school - but no football kits please! School closes early that day, and we are staggering dismissal to ensure the children can be collected promptly.
Reception, Year 1 & 2 - 1:25 pm Nursery and Years 3 - 6 - 1:30 pm
Parent helpers
If you are a regular helper in the classroom, please check with your class teacher to confirm if you are needed at school next week - timetables tend to change in the last week of the term. Thank you for your continuing support – it is greatly appreciated by all the staff and the children you work with.
Year group weekly news
Don't forget to read your year group weekly news, published every Friday afternoon in your child's Home Learning Google Classroom.
Instrument Lessons
Kingston Music Service (KMS) is excited to announce that woodwind lessons are now available at Fern Hill with the following recommendations: recorder suitable from Year 2 upwards; flute and clarinet from Year 4; saxophone from Year 5. KMS also offers piano, guitar and violin tuition. For further information, click here. If you have any questions which are not answered on the KMS website, please contact KMS directly.
It's the last chance to submit artwork for the Royal Academy of Arts' Young Artists’ Summer Show - a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 4–19. Follow this link and select Fern Hill Primary as your school. Registration and submission are open until Wednesday 27th March. Each student can submit one artwork and there is no theme. When you enter, you’ll be asked for an image of your child’s artwork plus some information about the piece such as its title, size, and a short text about it. It will be seen by a panel of judges and arts professionals and the selected pieces will be displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts when the exhibition opens in July.
This week was the last week of clubs for the term. Technokids will run one additional session on Monday 25th for their Monday clubs and gardening club will run a catch up session on Tuesday 26th. Booking for lunchtime and after-school clubs for the summer term is now open. Fern Hill run clubs can be booked through ParentPay. Please note that Gardening and Athletics club are now full. For clubs run by external providers, please check availability directly with them. The schedule of clubs and information on how to book is available here and also on the school website.

Book of the Week
Year 6 Book Club -'Jane Eyre' by Patrice Lawrence
Charlotte Bronte's beloved novel, Jane Eyre, has been abridged for younger readers by award-winning author, Patrice Lawrence, and our Year 6 Book Club pupils were utterly spellbound by the twists and turns of Jane's life and her ill-fated romance with Mr Rochester. Here's what they had to say about it:
‘I would recommend it to children who are going through a hard time, to show that if they try hard enough they could live a wonderful life when they’re older.’ Leila
‘I really, really enjoyed this book and I did not want to stop reading it! I was very surprised at the outcome at the end; I loved all the twists though it made me debate what to wear for World Book Day!’ Molly
‘I loved how this book was different from others. Most female heroes are described as rich and glamorous, but Jane is meant to be poor, simple and not very beautiful. It made me feel happy to read about a different heroine.’ Nell

PSA News & Events
Fern Fest 2024 - Saturday 15th June - Save the Date!
Inspired by the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, we want to celebrate sports, games and teamwork at this year's summer fair! We need YOU to make this event a success; we can’t hold these events without support from across the whole Fern Hill community. In particular, we are looking for performers to showcase their talents, adult or adult-led displays and local businesses and clubs that are interested in getting involved. Following the exceptional entries last year, we are excited to be holding another photography competition. Open to both children and adults, the theme will be ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together’. As always, we rely on parent volunteers to run the stalls and activities and this will be managed through our fantastic team of Class Reps. More details will be shared over the coming weeks…stay tuned! Please contact us at fernfestevent@gmail.com if you have any questions or ideas. Thank you!
PSA Easter Egg Hunt - tickets are still on sale!
