Reminders
Safety on the school site
Please do not use the car park as a pedestrian walk through. There have been a number of incidents recently where children have scootered or biked ahead of their accompanying adult and not been visible to cars pulling out of parking spaces. Families should only use the public footpath alongside the side of the school when walking to and from the KS2 playground. For everyone's safety, please do not ride scooters or bikes on the school site - adults and children should dismount at the Richmond Road entrance. Thank you.
Contact information
If you change home address or contact telephone number, please remember to inform the school office in writing of the new details so that we can update your child's record.
Don't forget the home learning activities for this half-term that are due by Friday 12th July for the Home Learning Showcase. Your child's Home Learning Grid and any supporting resources are published on their Home Learning Google Classroom.
The Parent Council PE & Sports Survey is still open, and we would very much appreciate your thoughts on the current PE offer to help shape the school’s provision. Information on the current offer is available here - please read this before completing the survey. You can access the survey by clicking this link.
Class Photographs
The deadline for ordering your child's class photograph (and the Year 6 Leavers' photograph) has been extended to Sunday 23rd June. Please refer to the ParentPay sent on 11th June for the gallery link and passcode for your class/es. If you have any queries, please contact the school photographer directly by email to info@inTime-Photography.com or phone on 07931 593169.

Book of the Week
‘When the Wild Calls’ by Nicola Penfold
Having escaped their city, Juniper Green and her brother Bear have settled in Ennerdale with their dad and his family. Every day, the Wild introduces them to a new wonder, but Juniper can’t stop worrying about her grandmother and best friend left behind. When she hears news that disease has entered the city, she’s determined to bring her loved ones to safety. The compelling and thought-provoking sequel to ‘Where the World Turns Wild’, this ecological adventure is perfect for fans of ‘The Last Bear’.
Here’s what our Year 6 Book Club had to say about it:
‘Inspiring, thrilling, surprising. The book made me feel grateful for our nature and Earth.’ Aira
‘I really like how it shows two different perspectives and how it made me feel like I am the character.’ Sofia
'I would recommend this book to someone who is feeling trapped as the book shows how an escape is possible.’ Nell
‘My favourite character is Juniper because she is very brave and kind.’ Eesha

PSA News & Events
Fern Fest 2024 - THANK YOU!
A huge thank you from the PSA Committee to everyone who came along to the summer fair, which was a fantastic event despite the best efforts of the British 'summer'. A particular thanks to the army of volunteers (including teachers and other Fern Hill staff) who gave up their time to help out on the day - it was amazing to see our school community come together. It's your support that makes these events happen!
And, of course, a huge thank you to Anita Duraiā© masterminding such a brilliant event with support from the wider team.
A busy couple of weeks!
As well as our summer fair, we have had two other fantastic events at school over the last couple of weeks! We’re really grateful to Caroline Gee for organising our first car boot sale at school - it was lovely to see people turning up to buy and sell on Sunday.
Our annual Dads’ Breakfast was also a great success - a special thanks to Nina and her team of volunteers for putting this on.
Ice cream sale - Monday 24th June
To celebrate the late arrival of summer, we will be holding an ice cream sale after school next Monday 24th June, to sell the surplus from the fair, along with sweets and other perishables.
We would be grateful for any help to set up (2:30 - 3:15 pm), during the sale (3:15 - 4:00 pm) and/or to clear up (4:00 - 4:30 pm). Please let your Class Rep know if you are able to volunteer...
School uniform donations - small sizes only!
We would be very grateful for donations of second-hand school uniform (especially Fern Hill branded items) in small sizes (ages 3-4 and 5-6) for our new Reception parents. Please leave donations outside the school office on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Thank you.
AGM Reminder - Thursday 11th July
Our AGM will be held in school on Thursday 11th July at 7:00 pm, and you can attend in person or virtually. Join us as we celebrate the past year and think ahead to next year!
And finally…save the date! The circus is coming to Fern Hill...
We will be celebrating the return to school in September with a fabulous circus!
Date: Sunday 22nd September
Location: Big Top on the YMCA Hawker Centre playing field
Time: 3 shows at 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, & 4:00 pm
Showtime: approx. 55 mins
Tickets: £10 per person. Due to limited capacity, tickets are only available for 2024/5 Fern Hill pupils and their parents/carers. Further details on how to buy tickets will be available soon.
If you would like to volunteer on the day, please join the Circus Volunteers WhatsApp group here. Helpers will be needed to set up/pack away & we would love to run some stalls and games too. As ever, we need your help to run this event and make it a success! Thank you!
