Book of the Week
Call the Puffins: ‘Muffin and the Shipwreck’ by Cath Howe
One night, during a big storm, the trainee rescue puffins hear the story of how the puffins got their beautiful, bright orange beaks. An ancestor found an orange gemstone in a shipwreck at the bottom of the sea and it turned her beak orange. But since that day, shipwrecks have been bad luck for puffins, and so they are warned to stay away from them. But when the storm washes up an enticing wreck, Forti decides to sneak away to dive for some treasure of his own. But when he encounters a giant octopus, his wing is injured and Muffin and Tiny have to rescue him. Another exciting puffin adventure about friendship and cooperation; this short chapter book is perfect for KS1.
