Baby News!
Many congratulations to Mr Scott (Ash Class Teacher) who's family welcomed a new baby girl this week. Mr Scott has spent this week with his family and will be returning to teach on Monday.
Farewell Mrs Tatum
We will be bidding a fond farewell to Mrs Tatum this half term as she leaves Fern Hill to spend more time with her family. Mrs Tatum has been with us since 2008, initially working as a Teaching Assistant and moving in to the finance department in more recent years to evolve the role of Club Co-ordinator. Her organisation skills will be sorely missed as she has arranged many school trips and clubs for a great number of classes and families during her time with us. We wish her well in the next chapter of her life.
Year Group Presentations
Thank you to all parents that were able to attend the year group meetings over the past week. If you didn't manage to make a meeting we have uploaded the presentations to our website under each year group page so you can refer to them at any time.

Tissues Please
We are rapidly running out of our tissue supply as the cold & flu season continues. If you could please purchase an additional box of tissues for your class when you're next out shopping we would be extremely grateful. Thank you.

Story Telling Week Finale
As a finale to our story week celebrating culture and diversity in our community, we are holding a carnival/parade in school on Friday 2nd February. Children are invited to dress in national dress if they have one, or in the colours of their chosen country. Bright and fun clothing is welcome but no team kits (football shirts etc) please.
Clubs
Gardening club will start after half term, there is lots to do in the secret garden – it is for years 2-6 on a Wednesday after school from 3.30 – 4.30pm.
Children will need to bring suitable clothing to wear for gardening – e.g. wellies if it has been raining.
The cost of the club is £27.50 for the 5 week half term – payment should be made on ParentMail.
If your child would like to join the gardening club please let me know by email - clubs@fernhill.rbksch.org
Sports Report
On a cold and blustery Tuesday afternoon, some of our Year 3 boys took part in a Tag Rugby festival, held at Surbiton High Sports Ground.
Playing 6 games without a break, they had an impressive score sheet - 3 wins, 2 draws and only 1 loss. This might not have seen them win the medals, but they played brilliantly throughout, scoring 18 tries! Full of enthusiasm, the mini-coaches who were being subs offered feedback and support for the players on the pitch, and there was a lot of sportsmanship shown during and after each match.
Well done to William G, Maxim, Luke, Amzar, Kai, Jojo, Tom, and William D (who scored the final try of the final match - on his birthday.

Year 3 Visit to The Natural History Museum
On Wednesday the 24th January, Year 3 went to the exciting Natural History Museum. We went to a workshop where we became palaeontologists by dusting dinosaur skulls and studying fossilised dinosaur dung. Then we saw some bright coloured gems and rocks. Our favourites were opal and topaz. We went on the shuffling earthquake simulator and got to travel into the centre of the earth’s core and see how volcanoes erupt.

Year 6 Visit to Tate Britain
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Tate Britain this week. It was great to see so many of them engrossed in sketching some of the artwork on display, as well as engaging in deep discussion about them. The behaviour of the whole year was excellent and resulted in a thoroughly enjoyable day for all.
Year 5 Visit to The British Museum
To compliment their current topic 'The Ancient Greeks' our year 5 classes enjoyed a visit to the British Museum this week. The teachers were very proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the day. Even members of the general public made comments to the teachers that they were a very well behaved group. Well done year 5!
Kingston Characters Exhibition
An exhibition at the Rose Theatre of stitched textile portraits, features people within our local community. The explosion of colour by local artist Ruth Blackford celebrates Kingston's wonderful and diverse community. It also features a very clever textile portrait of three of our year 4 children. Our year 4’s have already seen the portrait as Ruth kindly bought it in the show the children. It's definitely worth visiting the exhibition which is on from Tuesday 23rd Jan to Sat 3rd March on the first floor foyer at The Rose Theatre.
