Breakfast Club Reminders!
Parents MUST sign their children in to Breakfast Club each day.
The only children who can sign themselves in, are children in Yr 6 whose parents have written or emailed the office with their consent.
The gate opens at 7.30am and closes at 8.00am. Access to breakfast club after this time is through the Large Hall NOT through the Office.
Thank you.
Bikeability
Our year 6 Bikeability team enjoyed learning and practising road safety this week to complete their level 2 training. Well done - ride safely.
Fourth Plinth School Award 2018
We have an exciting opportunity to take part in the Trafalgar Square Fourth Plinth Competition this year!
Your mission is to design a sculpture that you would love to see on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in London and receive prizes from CASS Art!
Please make sure all entries are for the attention of Mrs Manzambi (Bluebell Class) or Miss Roberts (Daisy Class) by the 28th February. Make sure you include your name, your age and the title of your artwork.
We look forward to seeing lots of exciting entries!
Safer Internet Day
All KS2 classes have been learning how to share respect online and what to do if others are unkind to them. We have had some very thought-provoking discussions that will help us stay safe online.
FA Cup Final Tickets
Please see the attached for details for how you can buy tickets for the Women's Cup Final at Wembley in May.
Arts Week Exhibition
Thank you to everyone who attended our exhibition of art this week. We hope you enjoyed viewing the displays up close, and feel as proud as we do that we can collectively create colourful, meaningful and beautifully decorated school corridors. Well done to our teachers and children for their tremendous creative flair and hard work.
Changes to the Main School Entrance
From Monday 19th February, (the first day back after the half term break), the main outside entrance to our reception will have had a new entry intercom security system fitted.
For assistance, or entry you will need to press the buzzer that will link you directly to the office staff.
Coming soon – ParentPay!
We are excited to announce that we will be moving our school email communications and online payments from ParentMail to ParentPay during the second half of the Spring term. Benefits to parents will include an online lunches booking system and personal choice over payment reminders. Look out for more information after half term!
Year 5 Trip to France
Due to low attendance at our trip information meeting this week, we have planned a further meeting for:
Tuesday 20th February at 9.15am.
The meeting is for current Year 5 parents and will outline the itinerary, costs and all other arrangements for the trip to France which will take place on 20th – 21st September 2018.
It is very important that Year 5 parents try to attend the meeting as it contains lots of very valuable information that is not available in any other communication.

Calling All Parents!
Home Learning Support Opportunity
At Fern Hill we use an online resource called Espresso to support learning across the curriculum . All of our children are familiar with this resource, and now we wish to maximise the potential as a tool to support home learning.
A speaker from Discovery Education Espresso will be delivering a parent workshop on Wednesday 21st February at 2:45pm in school.
During this session parents/carers can gain a greater awareness of the resources that are available to support school and parents at home. You will gain an understanding of the impact that digital media can have on teaching and learning, a thorough understanding of how to navigate Discover Education Espresso, as well as how to save and download content. In addition, the speaker will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Please do join this session as it is a great opportunity to learn how to use technology safely, and to engage and inspire your children in their home learning.
If you have any questions please speak to Mrs Stephenson.
PSA News
Bounce for Books!
Letters and sponsorship forms for this year’s Bounce For Books event will have come home with children this week. This annual event, run by the PSA, is a great fundraiser for our school and a day that the children really enjoy! On Friday 2nd March, bouncy castles will be set up in the Main Hall and, class by class, each child will see how many bounces they can do in one minute. Please do encourage your family and friends to get involved in sponsoring your child. All money raised will be used to buy new books for the school libraries. Last year, thanks to the generosity of Fern Hill families, we raised over £3,100.00! Sponsorship is entirely voluntary and all children will get to take part in Bounce For Books. All donations are very gratefully received. Copies of the letter and sponsorship form are attached and spare copies are also available in school reception area. Please return your sponsorship form together with any money raised to the PSA post box in school reception by Monday 12th March.
If you would like to be a parent helper on the day (morning, afternoon or both) and help count the children’s bounces, please email bounceforbookscamillawaterman@gmail.com or let your Class Rep know. Thanks in advance for your support!
Mother’s Day Breakfast
On Friday 9th March, the PSA are running our first ever Mother’s Day Breakfast! This event will run from 7.45–8.45 am and is an opportunity for mums, grandmothers or other significant women to meet up and enjoy a delicious breakfast of cereal, toast, pastries, tea, coffee and juice with their Fern Hill children. This is a free event, funded by the Fern Hill PSA. To ensure we cater for the right number of people, please email your name plus the names and year groups of the children attending to fernhillpsa@gmail.com by Monday 5th March. Alternatively, please complete the slip on the attached poster and return it to the PSA post box in school reception. We're sorry but as space is very limited, pre-school children and babies won't be able to come along. All buggies will need to be left outside the Main Hall. Thank you for your understanding.
