Welcome!
We are pleased to announce that Miss Roberts has returned from maternity leave and is back at Fern Hill working in reception as teaching assistant on Thursdays. Welcome back!
We are also delighted to welcome Mrs Senbhi who is taking over Mrs Tatum's role in finance dealing with school clubs & trips. Mrs Tatum is staying with us until Friday 16th March to ensure a smooth handover with Mrs Senbhi.
School Uniform Reminder
It has come to our attention that some of our children are not adhearing to the school uniform expectations. May we remind you that boots and trainers are NOT part of school uniform and black school shoes must be worn in school. If children need to wear boots to school they must bring school shoes to change into. This includes black leather ankle or long boots. Please refer to the uniform expectations page of our website here to recap.

Parking Courtesy
We have had feedback from local residents that some of our parents are not being considerate when dropping children to school by car.
Please do not park across private driveways or park illegally causing stress to residents and causing local traffic to back-up. Find a free parking space in the surrounding roads that do not have parking restrictions and allow enough time to walk the rest of your journey to school. Thank you.
Parent Reader Request
We would like to hear from any parents that would be interested in becoming a parent reader in school for the summer term and beyond. You will be required to listen to and guide individual childrens reading across all years, not specifically for your child class .

Thank you to the 527 parents (75%) who have activated their ParentPay accounts already! Well done to parents of Foxglove, Bracken and Ash classes who each have more than 90% of accounts activated. Targeted reminders are going out again today - please remember to activate your accounts this weekend!
Don’t forget: if any additional parents/carers need to receive school communications you need to let us know. Please email office@fernhill.rbksch.org with their full name and email address, and the relevant pupil names and classes, in order for us to generate a ParentPay activation code for them.

School Lunch Ordering - Summer Term
The new Summer 1 menu and instructions for making lunch bookings via ParentPay will be available on the website from Monday 12th March. (Navigate to parents/healthy lunches.)
Please note that the old style excel and paper order forms will no be longer available on the website or in the school office area. If you have any problems ordering via ParentPay, or are unable to set up online payments, please email the school on office@fernhill.rbksch.org to make alternative arrangements.
Summer Term Clubs & Trips Information

Information about school clubs will be sent out by ParentPay on Monday 12th March. You will be able to book clubs and pay for them via ParentPay. There will no longer be an excel application form but paper application forms will be available outside the school office.
French Trip Payments (Year 5 parents only)
If you have not made the deposit payment for the Year 6 French Trip (September 2018) by ParentMail by the end of today, Friday 9th March, you will need to make the payment using ParentPay please.
Any outstanding payments for Spring class trips and the year 5 school journey should still be made via ParentMail.

Reception Fire station Trip
All of Reception enjoyed a fantastic trip to the local fire station this week! We learnt important skills if there was a fire, like staying low, using the back of our hand to test the temperature of the door, opening a window and shouting 'Fire!' and calling 999 in an emergency. The children represented Fern Hill brilliantly as the fire fighters complimented us on our wonderful behaviour and politeness! Thank you to all the parent helpers, it was an amazing trip!

Recently at Fern Hill we had discovery education deliver a parent workshop on ‘expresso’ which is an online learning platform covering all areas of the curriculum including newsbites (current affairs) and videos to support learning. All content is managed by discovery education so as a parent you can be assured that your children are accessing information appropriate for their age. Thank you to the 45 parents who attended and all the positive feedback received.

Sports Relief 2018
On Friday 23rd March the children will be participating in a day of skipping with and without ropes in support of Sports Relief. Children can bring in a donation (suggestion £1) and can come to school wearing sports clothes – Sports Relief branded, house colours, or general sport clothes of their choice.
There will be additional fun with a football tournament and a staff netball match - further details about the day will follow shortly.

Bounce For Books
Please remember to return your Bounce For Books sponsorship forms plus your donations to the PSA post box in school reception by Monday 12th March. All donations are very gratefully received and all the money raised will go to buy new books for school. A big thank you to all those parents who have already donated! We will let you know the final total raised as soon as we can. Thank you for your support!
Mother’s Day Breakfast
Thank you to all the Mums and children who joined us for a Mother’s Day breakfast this morning at school. A special thank you to all the Dads too who helped to set up and serve!
This was a very popular event which we hope to run again next year.
