A visit from The Mayor of Kingston
On Thursday The Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Julie Pickering, and Consort, Mr James Pickering visited Fern Hill to join an assembly with our year 4 and year 6 children. She spoke about her role within the community, and the the history of Kingston. The Mayor then took questions from the children which she commented were the most challenging and articulate ever put to her from primary school children.
!
Lateness
Children that are dropped off to school late, MUST be accompanied to the school office by an adult to be signed in as the doors to school are locked after the gates are closed and children do not have access.
School Earrings Policy
Earrings are NOT to be worn to school under any circumstances as they are a health and safety risk. Children seen wearing them will be asked to remove them immediately. This also applies to visits out of school including swimming lesson and sports events.
Thank you.
Medicines in School
If your child needs medication during the school day it needs to be bought to the school office where a form will need to be filled out. We are happy to administer antibiotics during the school day but unfortunately we cannot apply creams or ointments.
Many children suffer from allergies during the summer season and come to school with anti-histamine medicine to be administered throughout the day. A lot of time is spent doing this so we would like to ask if at all possible that all anti histamines are administered prior to coming to school.
Thank you.
Parent Governor Election
You will have received a letter (in your child’s book bag or via ParentPay) regarding the vacancy on the school’s Governing Body for a Parent Governor. Should you wish to propose a candidate please do not forget that the deadline for notifying the school is midday on Wednesday 2nd May 2018. Prospective candidates should also submit a written personal statement (not exceeding 100 words) in support of their candidacy by this time.
Should you wish to obtain further information about the election process or about governance at Fern Hill Primary School please contact the Clerk to the Governing Body at the school at flee@fernhill.rbksch.org

The Zoolab
Reception really enjoyed a visit from some unusual creatures this week when the Zoolab came to visit. They held a millipede, giant snail, snake, cockroach, and rose hair tarantula!
Year 5 Wakehurst Place
The children took a trip to Sussex this week to explore the amazing structure of flowers. They used hand lenses and binocular microscopes to look at a variety of flowers, and investigate flowers and how they relate to the process of pollination.
World Wildlife Fund Sale
The Year 5 girls wanted to say thank you for all the support they received from you last week. They managed to raise more than £50 for the WWF. That's enough to buy 200 seedlings for forests in Tanzania, or pay for a rhino ranger salary for 20 days!
We are really proud of you girls, well done!
