Year 3 trip to Chessington
On Friday 15th June Year 3 visited Chessington Zoo to learn all about animals and their skeletons. They enjoyed seeing many animals up close including giraffes, lions and tigers. The children were even lucky enough to see a 6 week old baby gorilla that was so tiny and very cute. Some very brave children chose to hold a Giant African Snail!
Thank you to all the parent helpers on the day.
Spanish Lessons!
In year 6 we have been having an hour of languages on a Wednesday. Half the class went to french and the other half went to Spanish. In Spanish we were split into two groups. The lesson is given by a teacher from TKA. We learnt to say: hello ,count from 1-10 and say how we are all in 2 weeks!

Music Evening at Fern Hill
On Wednesday evening, we had around 60 children that came back to school to play their instruments or sing to an audience of very proud parents. We were treated to classical pieces and pop songs this year; also, we had songs form Evita and Grease, which the choir performed beautifully.
Thank you parents and music tutors for all the encouragement and support. Big thanks also to Miss Day for organising a splendid evening.
Fern Hill Summer Fair
Thank you so much to all the parents, children and staff who made our Summer Fair last Saturday such a great success - it’s all down to the tremendous support of everyone who came along to enjoy the day and the hard work of the helpers and organisers. Once again, we were very lucky with the weather! We’re busy counting the takings and will let you know how much we have raised as soon as we can.
Healthy Hedge Fund - join in now and make a difference for decades to come!
Pupils, parents and staff have been busy collaborating on plans to plant a tall hedge along the fence of the KS1 playground, helping to cut pollution from Richmond Road and make the school a happier, healthier, more private place. We have permission from Transport for London and the Council and are now fundraising to buy the hedge. We’ll be planting a mature hedge so that we can reap the benefits straight away; it’s an evergreen called ‘Oleaster’ (Elaeagnus x ebbingei) and we hope to plant it in September. We’d love everyone to get involved in raising the £7,000 we need for this project, an investment that will benefit all our children next term and last for years to come. The children are going to be coming up with their own fundraising ideas in school alongside our crowdfunding appeal. Please visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/fernhillhealthyhedgefund to donate what you can – every penny counts! Look out for an ice cream sale after school on Friday 29th June and get ready to join a fun family walk and treasure/quiz hunt along the river from Kingston to Richmond on Saturday 14th July at 3pm. Please contact roscoe_john@hotmail.com for a fundraising pack. With all our parents, children and local community working together, WE CAN DO THIS!
An Ancient Experience
Year 4 went to Butser Ancient Farm as part of their Stone Age topic. It was a fantastic hands-on day where the children got to make pots and jewellery including cordage bracelets. The day was also incredibly informative and the children participated in each activity with tremendous enthusiasm. The children were very well behaved and set a perfect example of the expectations we have at Fern Hill. The Year 4 team would like to extend a thank you to all parent helpers who came with us!

We have had a busy couple of weeks involving lots of sports, and lots of children. Well done to everyone who has taken part or has come to trials – keep up the enthusiasm. Please see the following reports from Miss Petty and Mrs Sinclair.
On Wednesday 13th June, Mrs Rouvray and I were lucky enough to take a group of children, from Years 3-5, to participate in a long distance relay event. From start to finish, the children showed they were great team players, and even though we didn't bring any medals home, everyone ran their best and cheered each other on. I'd like to thank all 24 children who took part for a very enjoyable and sporty day!
Miss Petty
The Year 2 boys took part in a football festival at Kew AFC on Thursday 14th June. Full of enjoyment and enthusiasm, they played 4 games, winning 3 and only losing 1. Well done to the team:

They got the opportunity to hold a Giant African Snail, Corn Snake, Cockroach, Giant millipede apart from the tarantula! and learnt some great facts such as a cockroach can survive for 10 days without a head! All children behaved well (they had to be quiet as to not scare our visitors). What an exciting morning they all had!
