Road Safety Competition
Thank you all the children who have written poems promoting road safety for the Junior Travel Ambassadors' competition. The closing date is next Friday, 25th January, so there is still time to enter. Please post your poems in the green box in the junior library.
Thank you
Last November we raised £154.32 for the Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion's annual fundraising campaign.
Thank you to all the families who bought a poppy and to all the Year 6 children who came into school early every day to sell them.
Important Reminder
Photographic Consent for Pupils
On 4th December, you received, via ParentPay, a letter to explain that in order to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018, we need your permission to photograph or make any recording of your child. The letter included a table to illustrate the different ways your child's image and name could be used by school and requested your consent, or otherwise, for school to use images of your child.
It is very important that we have a consent form for every child in the school, signed and dated by a parent or legal guardian and to date there are a significant number of children for whom we do not have a form.
A copy of the letter sent is attached below and is also available to download on our website here. If you have not already returned your consent form, please do so as a matter of urgency. If you do not consent, you must still return a form. Please return the form to the school office, either via email or the post box in reception as soon as possible. Thank you.
February Half Term Holiday Camp at Fern Hill
Pleiades are offering a 20% discount for Fern Hill pupils who book onto their half term holiday camp running here at school from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd February.
The Pleiades team are planning an exciting and active week suitable for all year groups, including multi-sport games, football, hockey and dodge ball matches, gymnastics, parachute games and nerf wars! Throughout the week, Funsport Reward cards will be awarded for effort and achievement and an awards ceremony will be held on the Friday which parents and carers are welcome to attend. A copy of the planned timetable is attached below.
Both full and half days (either morning or afternoon) can be booked with the option of an early start (8 am) or extended day (5 pm). Places are available to book online now on the Pleiades website here.
If you have any questions, please contact Pleiades directly by telephone on 01483 270160 or email at info@pleiadesleisure.com
School Trips
This week, as part of their Religious Education topic, Special Places, Year 1 visited the Kingston Mosque. The children listened to an informative talk by sister Jan about what happens at a mosque and explored some of the features inside the building. They also had a go at writing their names using the Arabic alphabet! The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and were all beautifully behaved. Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to accompany the three classes.
Sports News & Fixtures
It’s a busy term ahead for sporting fixtures outside school with our teams playing football, rugby, netball and hockey at various venues in Surrey. Look out for match information and fixture results as they happen here in the newsletter!
We are extremely proud of our girls’ football team who will be representing the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames at the London Youth Games in March. Last term they competed against other local schools to win the Kingston borough competition and will be competing against the winners of other London Boroughs at the Youth Games for the prestigious Jubilee trophy. Good luck girls!
The London Youth Games have been inspiring young Londoners since 1977, when they were launched to mark the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. You can find out more about the National School Games Programme and London Youth Games here.

PSA News & Events
Cinema Night on Friday 8th February
The PSA are excited to announce that this year’s film for Cinema Night will be Paddington 2!
Tickets will go on sale outside school next week and cost £4 each. They will be available on Wednesday 23rd from 8.15 to 9.00am and on Friday 25th from 8.15 to 9.00am and from 3.15 to 3.30pm. To help make tickets accessible to all families, parents may buy for their own children and for friends. Please remember that this is an event for KS2 children only (Years 3 to 6).
Please note that tickets must be purchased by parents, not children, as tickets include important information about the arrival and collection of children at the event that parents must be aware of.
Children will need to bring their ticket, completed contact information stickers and a drink bottle with them on the night. Tickets will be exchanged for a hotdog (meat or vegetarian) and a drink. Additional drinks, popcorn and sweets will be available for purchase.
Doors open at 5.25pm and collection is at 7.45pm.
Please be aware that a responsible adult will need to bring your child, sign them in and collect them from the school hall. Any child arriving without a parent/carer/adult responsible for signing them in will necessitate a phone call for permission. If anyone other than the parent will be collecting, this will need to be communicated as children arrive. Please bear with us while we check the children in and out, it is for their safety and security.
Children will be supervised throughout the event by parent helpers and there will be teachers on hand as well. If you would like to volunteer to help at this event you can email fernhillpsa@gmail.com.
Thank you for your continued support of PSA events!
