The school office staff spend a significant amount of time every morning checking on children who are absent from school without reason.

Year Group Newsletters
We are always looking for new ways to emphasise and model our values of inspiration, collaboration, empathy and excellence at Fern Hill and this week we announced our ‘Top Table’ to the children. Every Friday, fourteen pupils will be invited to sit and enjoy their lunch with Mr Scott at the top table in the dining hall. These children will have been awarded a raffle ticket by our Play Leader for demonstrating the Fern Hill values during lunchtime play and going that extra mile to make their playground a happy place throughout the week.
Our Votes for Schools question this week was ‘Are young people interested in politics?’. 184 of our children votes ‘yes’ and 128 ‘no’. The session they spent debating the question gave them an opportunity to learn about the main political parties and, given their views on some key issues, establish which party their views corresponded with!
As part of our Christmas festivities, children and staff will enjoy a whole school Christmas lunch together on Thursday 12th December. The menu for Christmas lunch is now available on ParentPay. Please be aware that if you have already ordered a hot lunch for this day, your order has been cancelled and, if your child is in Years 3-6, your account credited with a £2.30 refund. If you would like your child to have the Christmas lunch, please log in to ParentPay and reorder for this day, selecting either the main or vegetarian option, by midnight on Sunday 1st December. Please note that we will not be serving the pasta or jacket potato options.
Congratulations to Foxglove, Rowan and Sycamore classes, the winners of our Maths Week Mathletics Challenge. The children were presented with their class prizes today during Celebration Assembly.
We’re very proud of all the children for their hard work. Together, they earned 663,800 points and spent 753 hours on Mathletics last week!
Thank you for your generous donations to the BBC Children in Need charity last week. We raised £480 from the collection at the gates and the sale of the pin badges, wristbands and key rings. A massive thank you to the PSA for running the cake sale which raised another £408, bringing our grand total to nearly £900!

PSA News and Events
Our Christmas events are happening on Friday 13th December!
Christmas is only weeks away and the PSA are busy getting organised. This year, instead of the traditional whole school fair, we’re trialling two exciting brand-new events both on Friday 13th December: a Family Present Stall for KS1 and a Festive Disco for KS2!
We’re asking for your support with generous donations to ensure our family present stall is well stocked with gifts and we welcome donations from all parents, not just those with children in KS1.
- Please bring your donations of new or re-gifted items of any size (but no alcohol) into school any time from next week and these can be left in the box placed in school reception. Suggestions include toys, books, games, sweets, chocolates (no nuts please), toiletries and candles. We’d also love any donations of wrapping paper, labels and sellotape!
- There will be a whole school mufti day on Friday 6th December when all children are asked to bring in £1 in return for not wearing uniform. Donations of gifts for the family present stall can also be brought to school on this day.
Family Present Stall for KS1 – Friday 13th December
For children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we will be holding a family present stall. The children will enjoy a lovely opportunity during the school day to visit the Small Hall with their class and each choose one special gift to wrap and take home for a family member.
As this is a school fundraising event, we’re asking for a donation of £2 per child to use the Family Present Stall. Of course you’re very welcome to give more if you wish! Children should give their money in an envelope to their class teacher during the week beginning Monday 9th December. Regardless of individual donations, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be able to choose one gift.
Festive Disco for KS2 – Friday 13th December
Children in KS2 (Years 3 – 6) will get the chance to attend a fabulous Christmas disco run by professional entertainers FroKids in the Main Hall after school! There will be two separate neon-themed discos during the evening: one for Years 3 and 4 from 4.15 to 5.15pm and one for Years 5 and 6 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.
Tickets will cost £5 each and include a pick ‘n’ mix bag of sweets for each child. Tickets will be available to buy in advance online and more details about booking will be provided soon. This will be a great opportunity for the older children to celebrate with their friends and show off their festive dance moves!
Please note that all children must be signed in on arrival, and signed out when they are collected, by an appropriate adult. Tree Tops staff will not be able to accompany children and sign them in or out.
We need your help with these events please!
We will be asking for plenty of parent volunteers to help both events run smoothly so look out for emails from your class reps and please be ready to help out where you can. More information on both the Family Present Stall and the Festive Disco will be sent out over the coming weeks. Thank you for your support as we put on these exciting brand-new events!
Christmas trees for sale outside school
As in previous years, Christmas trees will be available to buy outside school from 9.00am to 3.00pm during the following weekends: Sat 30th Nov and Sun 1st Dec, Sat 7th and Sun 8th Dec, Sat 14th and Sun 15th Dec. This is an excellent opportunity to buy high-quality Christmas trees and also support our school. The trees are sold by a former Fern Hill parent who has generously agreed to donate 50% of the money raised from the tree sales to Fern Hill.
Easy Fundraising
With Black Friday here and Christmas only weeks away, we want to make sure all Fern Hill parents are aware of easyfundraising – a simple and free way to raise extra money for our school while doing your online shopping without costing you a penny!
