IMPORTANT REMINDERS
COVID-19 Update to Families
A letter from Mr Scott regarding COVID-19 has been sent to all families via ParentPay today. The letter is attached below.
Absence from School
If your child is going to be absent from school, please ensure you inform the school office by 8.30 am on the day. If your child is absent from school for more than one day, you should contact the school office every day that your child is absent. You can email the school office at office@fernhill.rbksch.org or you can telephone on 020 8247 0300. If you telephone and are put through to the answer machine, please leave a message. The school office spend a significant amount of time every morning contacting families to query absences which they have not been informed of and we would be very grateful for your support in minimising the need to do this.

Fern Speak Finals
Congratulations to all the children from Year 3 and Year 5 who have performed at the Fern Speak Finals on Thursday. You were all brilliant! Thank you to our wonderful panel of judges too – Mrs Brooks, Mrs Dawson and Mrs Bell. That's it for Fern Speak this year - well done to all the children who have been involved. We're looking forward to celebrating the performing arts with Fern Speak once again in the autumn.
'This week, the children have been getting active in aid of Sport Relief, a fundraising event run by the UK charity Comic Relief which supports vulnerable people both here in the UK and worldwide.
Over the week, the children have been taking part in sporting challenges to see who will compete in the 'Phase Finals'. Skipping, running and football skills were all tested - along with collaboration and teamwork - to record a time in the 3 events. Final times are still being handed in - but the fastest team from each year group will be competing on Monday to find the Phase Winners!
Thank you for all the donations for Sports Relief that have come in today - we will be able to give you the total raised in next week's newsletter.
And for other sporting news...we have been busy with a few competitions and festivals over the last couple of weeks and there are a couple more sporting events this term: the Year 6 boys are in the semi-finals of the Football District Cup and there is also a hockey competition coming up. Look out for the full Term Round-Up in the last newsletter of term. We are currently entering the events for next term - so watch out for trials and news of those as we get nearer the time.'

Reminders about the Parent Consultation meetings & Tree Tops bookings for next week...
On Wednesday 18th March, school will finish at the normal time and consultations with class teachers will run from 4.00 to 7.00 pm. After school clubs and Tree Tops will run as usual, at the usual times.
On Thursday 19th March, school will finish at 2.00 pm and consultations with class teachers will run from 2.30 – 6.00 pm. Please collect your child promptly at 2.00 pm so that teachers can be ready for their first meetings at 2.30 pm.
After school clubs will start at the earlier time of 2.00 pm and Tree Tops will run from 2.00 to 6.00 pm. If you would like your child to attend Tree Tops on Thursday 19th March, from 2.00 pm when school ends or from 3.00 pm when their after school club finishes, you must book their place by midnight this Sunday 15th March. Bookings will NOT be accepted after this time. Tree Tops is extremely busy on this day and it is very important we know the numbers of children attending to ensure we comply with the appropriate staff to pupil ratio. If a child arrives at Tree Tops and there is no booking for them, a call will be made home to request the child is collected from school immediately.
When you are making your booking, please be careful to choose the correct session. On the Thursday 19th March ONLY, the session times will be as follows:
The EARLY afternoon session will run from 2.00 – 4.30 pm (this session will start at the earlier time of 2.00 pm, rather than 3.15 pm, because school will close at 2.00 pm).
The LATE afternoon session will run from 3.00 – 6.00 pm ((this session will start at the earlier time of 3.00 pm, rather than 4.30 pm, because after school clubs will finish at 3.00 pm).
The FULL afternoon session will run from 2.00 – 6.00 pm.
The national curriculum for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) for children in Years 1 to 6 is changing and from September 2020, a new statutory framework will apply to all schools. We are holding a Parents’ Briefing for families on Monday 30th March to explain the content of the new curriculum. The briefing will start at 9.15 am and will be held in the Large Hall. Please register your attendance by completing the form available via this link:
Year 2 had a really amazing trip to the British Wildlife Centre on Thursday. Home to the best collection of native British wild life in the UK, it was the perfect place to visit for our new topic 'Woodlands and Wildlife'. Led by very experienced and knowledgeable keepers, the children went on three different tours to see a huge range of animals from the tiny harvest mouse to the magnificent red deer. Highlights included meeting a Tawny owl close up, feeding the otters and visiting the red squirrel enclosure. As well as learning some great new facts, the keepers were really impressed with the children's knowledge of British habitats, animals and their food chains. It is clear from the fantastic recount writing that the children produced today that they thoroughly enjoyed the trip!

As with any event in the current circumstances, if you are feeling unwell and decide not to attend, please email fernhillpsa@gmail.com as soon as possible to let us know so we can adjust our order of food.
Bounce For Books
All sponsorship forms and money should have been returned to your class teacher by today. If you haven’t handed in your form and donation yet, please remember to bring it in next week. Thank you so much to all those parents who have already returned their forms and sponsorship money – your generosity and support is much appreciated. All money raised will be used to buy new books for the school and all donations are very gratefully received. We look forward to announcing how much this year’s event has raised very soon.
