This term, some of our extracurricular clubs will finish slightly earlier than others. The last session for Busy Lizzy Pottery club will be on Friday 3rd December. The last sessions for French and Spanish lunchtime clubs will run week of 6th December. There will be a catch-up session for Keyboards lunchtime club on Wednesday 8th December. It will be held in the Junior Library and not the Music Room. This is to make up for the cancelled session on 4th November.
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to mark seventy years of service with a Platinum Jubilee. An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022, will be held to celebrate this historic milestone. Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June are bank holidays and, because they fall during the summer half-term break, schools will have an additional INSET day. Fern Hill’s additional INSET day will be on Friday 27th May 2022. We will celebrate the Platinum Jubilee together in school on Thursday 26th May before finishing a day early for the half-term break. School will close at the usual time.
The term dates and INSET days for the 2022/2023 school year are now available on the school website here. Please note that there are two INSET days planned at the start of the autumn term in September 2022, two before the October half-term break, and one at the start of the spring term in January 2023.
This week in school we celebrated Friendship Week. The children took part in lots of different activities together to reinforce and celebrate positive relationships. They decorated two benches with their handprints…our Buddy Bus Stops! There are a few more handprints to go before the benches are varnished ready to be used in the playgrounds for the children to sit on. The children demonstrated their togetherness by making paper dolls that will be strung together to make a whole school chain for display in school. Classes also created posters to explore what makes a good friend and then paired up with other classes in different year groups to play games and put their reflections on friendship into practice.
On Monday, we wore our funkiest, oddest socks to show our support for Odd Socks Day, a national initiative from the Anti-Bullying Alliance which marks the start of their annual Anti-Bullying Week.
On Friday, we were raising money for the BBC Children in Need charity with a mufti day. Thank you so much to all the families who purchased Pudsey pin badges and key rings and donated through our dedicated JustGiving page.
Thank you so much to all the children and staff who showed their support for BBC Children in Need by coming to school in mufti and to all the families who purchased Pudsey pin badges and key rings and donated through our dedicated JustGiving page.
At the time of writing, a staggering £1,218 had been donated – and we still have to count the cash donations from the day! What an amazing community we are!
There’s still time to donate as we will be keeping the page open for a few more days. Please click here to donating through JustGiving. It’s simple, fast and totally secure and the money you donate via our page goes directly to BBC Children in Need, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Thank you.
Festive Concerts
Our plans for the festive season are beginning to shape up – please look out for further information over the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to go ahead with the Concert for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 at All Saints Church, planned for Tuesday 14th December. Instead, the children will be performing in school.
Each year group will be holding their own Festive Concert outside in the junior playground. Nursery will hold theirs in their own playground. Families are, of course, invited and the PSA will be organising a Christmassy hot chocolate and mince pie stall for everyone to enjoy prior to their concert. The children are invited to wear a festive jumper and hat too if they would like to.
