If your child has a specific medical need and you have received a Medical Information letter from Mrs Disalvo, please complete and return it to the school office no later than Monday 29th November. Thank you.
Don't forget your coat!
With the colder weather, please ensure that your child brings a coat to school every day. Unless it is very wet, children spend their breaktime and lunchtime play outside.

It’s with great sadness that we say goodbye to Mrs Disalvo at the end of this term. Mrs Disalvo has worked at Fern Hill for many years and has supported hundreds of families through (and often, beyond) their primary school journey with us. She will be greatly missed by the children, parents, carers and staff. We know lots of you will want to say goodbye so please do pop and see her in the school office over the coming weeks.
Christmas celebrations
Autumn end of term celebrations will begin at Fern Hill on Friday 10th December when we’ll show our support for Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day - children can wear a Christmas jumper instead of their school uniform jumper or cardigan. We'll be setting up a JustGiving page for any donations you would like to make to the Save the Children charity.
Friday 10th December is also the first day of our Festive Concerts with Nursery and Reception children performing to their families. Please see below for all the details. It's disappointing that we can’t go ahead with the All Saints Church concerts for the older children, but we are very glad to be able to actually perform in person this year. We hope you will join us.
If your child would like to give Christmas cards to their friends, please send them into school by Friday 10th December. The children can post them in their class post boxes and they will be handed out the following week.
Our whole school Christmas Lunch for children and staff will be held on Wednesday 15th December. We’ll be sending out further information on this next week but please do note that you will need to place an order for the lunch on ParentPay by Sunday 5th December.
Thursday 16th is the Christmas Party day for children in Reception through to Year 6. As usual, it is a mufti day and the children may wear party clothes to school.
Last year, due to the COVID-19 control measures in place, we asked you to provide a party packed lunch for your child. This year, we are very hopeful that we will be once again asking families to donate party food for their class to be shared by all the children. Please look out for more information on this from your Class Rep. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that we can invite parent helpers into the classroom to help set up and run the party lunch but this will need to be decided much nearer the time, based on the control measures we have in place in school on that day. We’ll keep you posted.
On Thursday 16th, the children will also enjoy a pantomime. The performance will be personalised for us and delivered virtually. Thank you so much to the PSA for funding this.
Friday 17th is the last day of the autumn term. It’s a mufti day of course and school will close at 1:30 pm. Tree Tops will run a full session from 1:30 – 4:30 only and must be booked in advance. Further details on the arrangements for Tree Tops will follow via ParentPay.
Nursery’s Christmas party day will be held on Friday 17th December. Please see the Nursery newsletter for details of the arrangements for that day.
Festive Concerts
Each year group will be holding their own Festive Concert outdoors and we are very grateful to the PSA who will be providing hot chocolate and mince pies to keep everyone warm! Please see below for the dates and times for your child's concert.
Entry and exit will be via the junior playground gates at the rear of the school (or the Nursery gates) and the gates will open fifteen minutes before the concert starts. We’d love the children to wear a festive jumper and hat too on the day.
Call for volunteers!
We are delighted that the PSA is once again able to host large scale events for the Fern Hill community and, following a brilliant Fireworks Night earlier this month, a Festive Fair is being planned for Saturday 11th December. It will be a fabulous afternoon to get us all the festive spirit and traditionally is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year but it really can't happen without your help!
Classes have been invited to each run their own stall at the Fair and your class rep will have been in touch to ask for an hour of your time on the day. Please help us to raise much needed funds for our school and bring our community together. Thank you!
If you can spare some time at the Fair, please let your class rep know as soon as possible, or email the PSA directly at: fernhillpsa@gmail.com

PSA News & Events
~ Pre-loved uniform and Christmas jumper sale ~
Your PSA will be holding another pre-loved uniform sale after school on Friday 3rd December, this time with a festive twist! As well as donating your second-hand uniform (list of items below), can you give any outgrown or spare Christmas jumpers (kids or adults!) a second lease of life? Please bring your donations into school on Monday 29th or Tuesday 30th November.
We would love donations of the following uniform items: school jumpers/cardigans, PE kit, grey trousers/pinafores/skirts. Please, no shirts/polo shirts (except PE tops!). We would particularly appreciate uniform items for ages 7-8 years and up. Many thanks!
~ Christmas trees for sale at school ~
A reminder that Christmas trees will be sold outside school on the weekends of 4th & 5th, 11th & 12th and (depending on stock availability) 18th December. For every tree sold, Niki and her team make a donation to us, so please buy a tree from Fern Hill and support your school!
~ Mufti Day/ Tombola Donation on Friday 3rd December ~
Next Friday 3rd December is a mufti day, and the children may wear their own clothes to school in return for a donation for the tombola at our fabulous Fern Hill Festive Fair! We would really appreciate your donations of wine, spirits, other bottled goods, beauty products, candles, chocolates and other festive fare, to be brought into school on the morning of 3rd December. Thank you!
