Lunch Menu Spring Term 1 2022
Everyone in the school office would like to say a huge thank you for all the gifts and festive wishes received this week. They are quite overwhelmed and very grateful!
Next term's extracurricular lunchtime and after school clubs for children in Years 1 through to 6 are now available to book. The club timetable is published on the website here.
For school run clubs, today is the last day to make payment through ParentPay and complete an application form, available here. For clubs run by external providers, bookings should be made directly with the providers and not school. Click here for their contact details.
Thank you for your generosity! This term we have raised over £2,917 for charities: £1,733 plus £222 in gift aid for Children in Need and £617 plus £114 in gift aid for Save the Children. A special thank you to the children’s hard work and dedication last week too, selling the craft items made by families in Kenya in support of The Lunchbowl Network and raising £231.
A message from Mr Scott
It’s been a long but very rewarding autumn term - a much awaited return to school life, free of many of the restrictions we have faced over the past eighteen months. For some of our younger children, this term has been their first experience of moving freely around the school and mixing with other year groups. It’s so impressive how well they have settled – a testament to the hard work of our staff and the encouragement and support of their families.
As always, across the school, the children have displayed a wonderful attitude towards their learning, modelling our values and making the most of the range of extracurricular opportunities we have once again been able to offer. We’ve welcomed visitors into school for curriculum linked workshops and talks and took the first steps to resuming a full trips schedule - with plenty more planned for every year group in the spring and summer terms.
I am delighted to have welcomed parents back into the school building including of course our brilliant PSA who have had a very busy term indeed! Thank you to all the parents and carers involved, for their dedication and energy in leading events that raise vital funds for our school and strengthen the already strong home-school partnership we value at Fern Hill.
As you know, we are saying a fond farewell to Mrs Disalvo in the school office, Mrs Gerbais from the Inclusion team, Miss Disalvo from our support staff team and Mrs Eakin, our librarian. They have each made a huge contribution to life at Fern Hill; we will miss them greatly.
I hope you are all able to have a well-deserved break and look forward to seeing the children back in school on Wednesday 5th January, reenergised and ready for another exciting and purposeful term. Despite these uncertain times, our focus remains on ensuring that your children are happy, safe and continue to grow their love of learning.
My very best wishes to you all for a peaceful Christmas and a brighter year ahead.
It's been a very happy and festive week at Fern Hill!
The children performed brilliantly at their Festive Concerts. So much hard work and practice had gone into these special outdoor performances and they sang beautifully. Thank you to all the families who came to celebrate with us, and to the PSA for keeping everyone warm with hot drinks and mince pies. We are uploading the concerts to the Google Classroom so please keep an eye on the stream.
The children enjoyed their Christmas party day yesterday and were treated to a fabulous virtual pantomime – Cinderella. Thank you so much to the PSA for funding this. Nursery have their party today with a very special visitor – Froggle the Magician!
We’ve been very lucky this week to receive two visits from Father Christmas! On Tuesday he flew by and made a quick pit stop on the roof to wave hello to the children during playtime. Yesterday, he visited children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with Mr Scott to hand out their Christmas gifts – another thank you to the PSA for funding these.
On Wednesday, children and staff enjoyed Christmas Lunch together. We’d like to say a huge thank you to our wonderful catering team, Vicky, Karen, Venus, Sally-Anne, and Roxanne for serving up the delicious feast. A special thanks to Mrs Disalvo, Miss Crook and Mr Scott too who lent a hand.
Team Points
At the end of term, the number of team points each House receives is allocated based on their position (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) each week of the term.

Festive Fair - Thank you!
Your PSA would like to say a huge “thank you” to all the parents, carers, children and staff who helped out at, and came along to, the Festive Fair last Saturday! It was a brilliant day, full of Christmassy fun, and raised thousands of pounds (final fundraising total to come after Christmas) for our school.
This event could not have happened without the huge efforts of our Class Reps and their parent and carer volunteers, as well as the generosity of local businesses and individuals who donated to the raffle.
Thank you all, and the PSA wish you a very happy Christmas! We look forward to more fun-filled events in 2022.
