Fern Hill Careers Fair 2022
Last week, your received a letter inviting nominations for a Parent Trust Associate position on Fern Hill's Local Academy Committee - attached below. It's a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the strategic leadership of the school for someone with the skills and enthusiasm to take on this rewarding role. To nominate yourself, please submit the nomination form before the deadline of 12:00 pm noon on Friday 11th February 2022. If more than one nomination is received, a ballot will be held after the half-term break. Today, we said goodbye to the lovely Miss Hofbeck in the school office. She will be greatly missed by the children, their families and all the staff. We wish you all the very best Miss Hofbeck!
The children all looked fantastic today in their number and maths themed mufti clothes – have a look at your Home Learning Google Classroom for photos of some very creative costumes!
We've had great fun taking part in Number Day, celebrating maths at school and raising money to support the NSPCC. A huge thank you to all the families who have donated via our JustGiving page. We’ve raised £524 so far and nearly reached our target of £600. There’s still time to donate – please do so if you can. Thank you.
Wellness Week
Next week is Wellness Week at Fern Hill and the children will be focusing on mental health and well-being across the curriculum. We are proud to be supporting Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week and will be exploring what it means to grow together – how we have grown and how we can help others to grow. There will be lots of practical elements too with classes cooking together in the Art/DT room, the return of the Daily Mile and a range of mindfulness linked activities including yoga and meditation.
Sponsored Run
On Thursday 10th February, all the children will take part in a sponsored run at school, in aid of two charities chosen by the children themselves: Born too Soon, a local charity based at Kingston Hospital, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. We'll be sending home more information and a sponsorship form on Monday.
Wear Your SCARF to School Day
On Friday 11th February, it's Wear Your SCARF to School Day, Coram Life Education's first ever national event, linked to their SCARF scheme of work that we follow as part of our PSHE curriculum at Fern Hill. SCARF stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship – key skills that are crucial for children to achieve their best, academically and socially.
School Lunches
Lunches for the second half of the spring term are now available to order online via ParentPay. The menu is attached below and on the website here. Information on how to order a lunch using ParentPay is available on our website here.
The order deadline for the first week back after the half-term break is midnight Sunday 13th February however, to guarantee your child’s choice of meal option, please place your orders for Monday 21st – Friday 25th February by next Thursday 10th February.
Today, we announced our Careers Fair for children in Year 5 and 6. It will be held on Thursday 10th March in school and we have sent a letter home asking for parents and carers to volunteer their time to talk to the children about their jobs and demonstrate just how what they are learning at school today can lead to an exciting future tomorrow.
If you are available from 1:30 – 3:15 pm on Thursday 10th March and would like to inspire the children by sharing your profession and own career journey, please complete this linked form: Fern Hill Careers Fair by Thursday 24th February. The letter with further information is attached below.
COVID-19 Testing
Today, your child will come home with a pack of lateral flow device tests. Each pack contain 7 tests. These are for Fern Hill pupils only. We ask that you test your child on a twice weekly basis until the half-term break: on Sunday 6th February and Wednesday 9th February. Please ensure that you also test before returning to school, on Sunday 20th February, You can order tests for other members of your household here. Thank you.
