Sports Day 2022
We’d like to say a HUGE well done to all the children in Year 6 who sat their SATs this week. We are very proud of all their hard work and effort and hope they enjoyed a fantastic day today dragon boating on the Thames!
Sports Day - Friday 20th May
We are really looking forward to welcoming all our families to Fern Hill’s Sports Day on Friday 20th May when our whole community can come together once again to celebrate the children’s achievements. This year we will be holding Sports Day at the YMCA Hawker Centre on Richmond Road. Today, you will have received a letter via ParentPay with all the details of day. The letter is also attached below.
If you have a child in Years 3, 4, 5 or 6, please complete the form linked here by Wednesday 18th May to let us know about their collection arrangements.
All children will need a packed lunch on the day and we'd love them to wear a t-shirt representing their Fern Hill House colour - please see the letter for further information.
Plant a tree for the Jubilee & The Queen's Canopy Art Competition
At Fern Hill, we will be taking part in the Woodland Trust’s The Queen’s Green Canopy and planting trees and plants to create a new Fern Garden, to enhance our school environment, support sustainability and to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee. Alongside planting ferns, we are holding an exciting competition to design a piece of commemorative artwork, with a theme linked to nature and/or sustainability, that will be displayed as a permanent plaque in the new Fern Garden.
We would love every child to take part, drawing their inspiration from nature. They may like to draw a tree, a forest, a flowering plant or perhaps a study of a part of a tree or plant such as a leaf or a flower. Their artwork should be bright, bold and eye-catching, represent nature and/or sustainability in some way and be circular in outline.
The design can be as creative as they wish but not too complicated so that it can be replicated in a larger form. The children can use a mix of materials (colour pencils, water colour pencils or paints, pastels, collage) and any technique (sketching, drawing, painting, printing).
The winning design will be judged by Mr Scott and the winner will then have the opportunity to participate in a special art workshop to replicate their design as a plaque. There will be runners-up from each year group too. Entries should be handed in to your child’s class teacher by the closing date of Monday 23rd May at 9:00 am. Happy designing!

PSA News & Events
Your PSA - a reminder of what do we do and how you can get involved!
Fern Hill PSA exists to build COMMUNITY amongst the parents, pupils and staff at the school, and to FUNDRAISE to give our children and staff the additional resources they need to make the school experience even better for everyone!
We do this by organising fundraising events and activities, from big ticket events such as fairs and Fireworks Night, to regular pre-loved uniform sales which give all our families access to good quality second-hand school uniform.
All parents/carers are already members of the PSA because your children attend the school. But we are really keen to recruit some more active members to help the core team run these events, and we would also love to hear from anyone who has an idea for an event or fundraiser and (crucially) is willing to take on leadership of it. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and the school, and it benefits your children directly through the additional resources the PSA can fund.
The PSA have a number of exciting events coming up during the summer term, including a Father’s Day Breakfast on 17th June. The star fundraiser event this term will be our Fern Hill Festival Fair, which will be held on Saturday 25th June from 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
The best to way to get involved is to join the PSA What’s App group linked here. We’d love to hear from you!
Jubilee Tea Towels - order by Tuesday 17th May!
Over £2,300 worth of orders have been placed for the gorgeous children’s personalised Fern Hill Platinum Jubilee tea towels and bags - don’t miss out! The deadline to order is this Tuesday 17th May. They will not be available after this date, so get your order in asap if you have not already done so!
Summer Fair - sale boards
Local estate agents Curchods are kindly supporting our fundraising by advertising our summer Festival Fair on their branded boards. They will donate £10 to Fern Hill for every board that goes up outside parents’ houses or flats. The more boards that go up, the more money we will raise to benefit our children!
If you are happy to have a board outside your home, all you need to do is fill in the form linked here with the information requested by Wednesday 18th May.
Please note these are NOT “for sale” signs – they advertise the Fair. Curchods will arrange for them to be put up on Monday 6th June and taken down the on Monday 27th June.
