This year in Britain, Harvest Festival falls on Sunday 11th October and next week the children will take part in assemblies that explore the significance of this celebration around the world and reflect on the food hardship so many families are facing.
To support our local community, on Friday 14th October we will be collecting for the Kingston Foodbank and welcome any donations of non-perishable foods at drop off in the morning or at pickup. Click here for a list of items the Foodbank are most in need of right now. A trolley will be at the infant’s playground gates for you to leave your donations or you are welcome to bring them directly into the Large Hall on the way to the juniors’ playground. Thank you for your support. If you would like to explore Harvest with your child at home, CBeebies have produced a short programme: What is Harvest Festival?
Half-term Activities at Fern Hill
Masquerade and Mother Nature Science are both running exciting Halloween themed workshops at school over the half-term break. On the INSET days, Pleiades is offering a two-day holiday camp led by Mr Guyatt, our outdoor PE teacher. Further information and details of discounts for Fern Hill pupils are on the website here.
Parents' Evening
The Parents’ Evening System is now closed for bookings. If you have not yet made an appointment to speak to your class teacher next week, please contact the school office.
School closes early on Thursday 13th October at 1:30 pm. Thursday’s after school clubs will run at the earlier time of 1:30 – 2:30 pm. Please collect your child promptly at 2:30 pm from the usual collection point.
Colin Stuart Author Visit
On Tuesday, Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed a fascinating talk from astronomy author, Colin Stuart, who had been visiting TKA to open their new school library.
The first person to visit Mars is probably in primary school today, so Colin gave us some tips on what it would be like to voyage to Mars including: how you would exercise without gravity, what you might do for fun, and how you would go to the toilet! Ask your children what shooting stars are made of...
~ Mrs Rouillard, School Librarian
If you missed out on the book orders, you can still order a signed book from Colin's website here and it will be delivered to school.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Macmillan coffee morning last Friday; you helped us raise just over £410 for this wonderful charity. Thank you also to everyone who baked and to our lovely team of volunteers.
