Your year group weekly news is published every Friday afternoon on your child's Home Learning Google Classroom. Don't forget the home learning activities for this half-term that are due by Friday 26th May for the Home Learning Showcase.
We wish all our Year 6 children the very best of luck next week when they will be sitting their SATs. We’re looking forward to celebrating with them on Friday when the tests are over!
This week's Times Tables Rock Stars class winners are BEECH, CHESTNUT, SYCAMORE and ELDER. Well done!
Our Careers Fair is planned for the afternoon of Thursday 22nd June. We hope to showcase a varied range of careers and would welcome volunteers from our parent community at the Fair, to talk to the children about the jobs that they do. If you can help, please let us know by completing this linked form. Thank you. You can find all the details in the letter your received from Mrs Stephenson last week.
Coronation Celebrations
We dodged the rain today and had a fabulous time today celebrating the King’s Coronation outside! The whole school picnic lunch was followed by a performance from each year group to showcase the songs they have been learning in music. Thank you to Vicky and her team for the pizza and brownies and to all the children and staff for making such an effort to dress up for the occasion.
Book(s) of the Week
This week's book review explores picture fiction for early readers from the Spark! School Book Awards Picture Book Shortlist.
‘The Bear and her Book: There’s More to See’ by Frances Tosdevin & Hannah Worsley
Bear reads about a sad and lonely bear living in the arctic in her Book of Being Wise and sets out to find him, helping lots of other animals along the way. A lyrical, stunningly illustrated story about a curious bear and her book-inspired adventures.
‘The Drama Llama’ by Rachel Morrisroe & Ella Okstad
Whenever Alex is feeling anxious, his worries turn into a real live llama. The llama keeps growing and causing chaos until his teacher gets him to talk about his worries. A colourful and hilarious read about learning to calm your drama llama by sharing your worries.
‘The Night Flower’ by Lara Hawthorne
As the sun sets over the desert, all the creatures begin to gather for a special event – the blooming of the beautiful Night Flower on the saguaro cactus, which only happens once a year. ‘The Night Flower’ is a gorgeously illustrated story about a rare and magical moment in nature.
‘Why, Oh Why, Am I a Crocodile?’ by Alex Brooks & Hannah Worsley
A lonely crocodile envies the other animals with their bright colours, long legs and appealing smiles, until she meets a blind monkey who teaches her to accept herself for who she is. A delightful rhyming story about friendship and learning to love yourself.
SPARK! School Book Awards Pupil Competition
Don't forget that the deadline for entries for Mrs Rouillard's competition is Tuesday 23rd May! Children can choose their favourite shortlisted book and be as creative as they like to capture their own personal response to it - by writing, drawing, sculpting, coding or even composing something individual and unique! Click on one of these links to find out more about the books and competition details: Nursery - Year 2; Year 3 & Year 4; and Year 5 & Year 6.
