Last day of term
Friday 21st July is the last day of term. It is a mufti day and the children may wear their own clothes to school - but no football kits please! School closes early on Friday, and we are staggering dismissal to ensure the children can be collected promptly.
School Uniform
Appointments with our school uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear, are available to book now - please click here. The cut-off date for ordering uniform for the start of the autumn term is 12th August. Please see the school website here for uniform requirements at Fern Hill.
Please return your library Books
You will have received a library letter to let you know which library books your child still has at home. Please return all library books by the end of term or let us know if a book has been lost and needs replacing.
Class Photographs
Class photographs have been delivered to school today and will be sent home with your child next week. They are still available to buy - delivery will be to your home address and charged at £3.50. Please use the class link and password sent via ParentPay if you would like to order.
This week's Times Tables Rock Stars class winners are ROWAN, YEW, LIME and WILLOW. Well done!
After school and lunchtime clubs for the autumn term will be available to book from next week. Please look out for a ParentPay email to let you know when the booking window opens. Next week all Monday clubs will run as normal and the following catch up clubs only: Gardening (Tuesday); Technokids (Thursday); Technokids & Bake with Rana (Friday at 1:30 pm).
End of Year Reports
All End of Year Reports have been sent out through ParentPay. If you have not received your child's Record of Achievement Report, please contact the school office by email at: office@fernhillprimary.org. Please remember to acknowledge receipt of your report by completing the form linked in the letter we sent you.
Open Afternoon
On Wednesday 19th July, we are holding our Open Afternoon when school will be open after dismissal until 4:00 pm for you to come into the classroom with your child to look at their books and share their learning together. You may also like to take the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom for September and meet their new class teacher.
Ready, Set, Read!
The Summer Reading Challenge is ON! The theme this year is sports and games and it's an excellent way to keep your children engaged with reading over the holidays. You can sign up at your local public library or online and your child will receive a certificate once they have completed the challenge. They can bring their certificate in to school in September to share with their new class teacher. Find out more on the Summer Reading Challenge website.
A Glint of Gold
Congratulations to all our fabulous Year 6 children for their wonderful production of A Glint of Gold. They ran three shows in all this week to a packed audience each time. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch and support the children.
Book of the Week
'Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Manifestor Prophecy' by Angie Thomas
Our Year 6 Reading Champions and a few other pupils had the opportunity to read and review a new fantasy book for a publisher this term.
'Nic Blake and the Remarkables' is the first middle grade book from Angie Thomas, author of the popular Young Adult novel, 'The Hate U Give'. When Nic Blake turns twelve, she's hoping her Dad will finally teach her how to use her magical Manifestor gifts. But instead she gets a pet hellhound called Cocoa, discovers a terrible secret, and her Dad is accused of an awful crime. Nic must go on the run with her best non-magical friend, JP, to find a secret weapon that could prove his innocence. 'Nic Blake and the Remarkables' is a rollercoaster fantasy ride, about a parallel world that integrates the history of the American civil rights movement. (The ‘Underground Railroad’, becomes a literal magical underground railroad). It's a thrilling read with a shocking twist at the end.
This is what our pupils had to say about it:
"This book is as remarkable as can be. My favourite character is Nic because every time she wants to give up, she bears the hardness and something great happens. Five stars." Gretl
"Amazing. I like the scene where Cocoa reunites with her mum, it's very cute and touching. I also like how Cocoa and her mum would protect Nic and her friends. When is the sequel going to be out?" Ashley
"I loved this book. It was full of action and I would really recommend it to people who have read 'Mia and the Lightcasters' and 'Amari and the Night Brothers. Five stars." Lucas

PSA News & Events
Year 6 Uniform Donations Wanted!
We would love uniform donations from our Year 6 Leavers, especially those Fern Hill branded items - jumpers, cardigans, PE t-shirts, ties and fleeces.
There will be a trolley outside main reception every day next week for you to drop off your donations. Please, no smaller sizes as the boxes are full! Thank you.
Dragon Boat Race THIS Sunday!
Don't forget you can still sponsor our Fern Hill parents and staff taking part in the Dragon Boat Racing Challenge this Sunday 16th July. They have been training very hard and would love your support! Click here to donate.
Thank You from the PSA Committee
The PSA Committee would like to say a huge thank you to all parents, carers, staff and pupils who have supported our events and fundraising efforts this year. Whether you have volunteered to help at events, donated items to the raffles/tombola, bought your children's Cauliflower Cards, or simple come along to any of the many events which have been organised this year, it has been brilliant to see the school community come together and we are extremely grateful for your support.
Coming up next term...the Teddy Bears' Picnic (Nursery & Reception only) on 27th September, a PSA meeting (all welcome!) on 5th October, Cauliflower Cards, Pumpkin Hunts (on 14th October and over the half-term break), and of course Fireworks Night on 2nd November! We look forward to seeing you all in September and hope you have a wonderful summer break.
