Reminders
PE Kit
Please ensure your child wears school uniform PE kit on their PE kit day. You can find further information on the website here.
Library Book Amnesty
We are still missing lots of library books, especially among Year 4 and 5! Many were taken home by the children before lockdown in March and we appreciate that the children did not have an opportunity to bring them back before the end of the summer term. Please can you have a good look at home for any that should be returned? Your child can hand them to their class teacher who will make sure they are passed on to our librarian, Mrs Eakin. Thank you!

Lunch menu for Autumn 2
On Wednesday 21st October, the PSA are holding a Mufti day fundraiser! In return for a donation of £1, children may come to school wearing fancy dress. Mr Scott has asked that children do not wear Hallowe’en costumes or anything that could possibly scare. No football strips either please! The money you raise will be used to buy classroom resources. The PSA will be collecting your donations outside the school entrance on the day. Children should not bring any money into their classroom so if your child walks to school on their own, please remind them to look out for the PSA. If it’s your usual PE kit day, don’t worry, your child can still wear fancy dress.
Reception Health Survey
Calling all Reception families!
The school nursing team would like your input to their School Health Entry Survey. It is a short survey that supports parents to think about the needs of their children and whether they may require some additional support from the nursing team with some aspects of their children’s health. The survey also gives the team an overview of our school and which health related learning programmes might be right for us. The information you provide is treat as confidential. If you would like to take part, please click on this link: https://tinyurl.com/y58splaf
School Lunches for the Autumn Term
Lunches for the second half of the autumn term are now available to book online via ParentPay.
We are so pleased that all children are now eating together in one of the Halls and not in their classrooms. This has allowed us to begin the transition back to our usual menu of hot lunches from the servery. You can find the menu and information on how to book on our website here. The menu is also available to view on ParentPay when you place your orders.
The deadline for booking lunches for the first week back after half term, week commencing 2nd November, is slightly shorter than usual to allow us to order the food items before the half term break. Please place your order by midnight on Sunday 18th October. The deadline will revert back to normal for the second week back.
Lunches for 2nd – 6th November – place your order by midnight Sunday 18th October
Lunches for 9th – 13th November - place your order by midnight Sunday 1st November
You can find further information about school lunches on the website here.
We are pleased to confirm that we will be offering Bikeability Levels 1 & 2 training for children in Year 5 and 6 over the October half term break. We are giving Year 6 priority until Monday 12th October. After this date, any places left will be offered to Year 5 children – please look out for a ParentPay to let you know when you can book.
The course is run by the Kingston & Sutton borough Sustainable Transport Team and the children are taught by a nationally accredited instructor who is DBS checked and first aid trained. There is no charge for this course. Once your child has completed Levels 1 & 2, they will be entitled to access more advanced Bikeability training to help them make independent journeys to, e.g. secondary school.
The course has been adapted to follow updated guidance from The Bikeability Trust that is in line with government advice regarding COVID-19 control measures. Please note that this course is for children who can already cycle and have reasonable control skills - it is not for complete beginners.
For further information, please click here.
If your child is in Year 6, click here to book.

Cauliflower Cards
Thank you to all the families who took part in our Cauliflower Cards project. We hope the children enjoyed creating their own designs! The cards will be delivered back to us later this term, in time for Christmas, and will be sent home with the children.
Fancy Dress/Second-hand Uniform Sale
Tomorrow, Saturday 10th October. The sale will be held AT SCHOOL, outside school reception from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Cash and card payments accepted!
If you have any fancy dress costumes to donate, please drop them off at 14 Tudor Drive (KT2 5PZ) today, or bring them along to school tomorrow.
Our next sale will be on Saturday 7th November and we will be focusing on sports clothing, shoes and equipment (shin pads, racquets, hockey sticks etc.). We’ll be accepting any of your donations of these items at the sale tomorrow or you can drop them off at 14 Tudor Drive over the next few weeks.
We need volunteers to help at both sales, to work in shifts between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm. If you can spare an hour or two of your time, tomorrow or on 7th November, please email us at: fernhillpsa@gmail.com
AmazonSmile
If you’ve started to think about Christmas shopping and plan to do some online, please don’t forget about EasyFundraising and AmazonSmile. You can find out more about EasyFundraising on the PSA pages of the school website here.
For more information about AmazonSmile and to sign up, click here.
If you choose Fern Hill Primary School Parent Staff Association as your preferred charity, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the cost of your purchases to the school at no extra cost to you.
As you know, due to the pandemic, our traditional fireworks display will not be going ahead in November. We are however working with the school to see what events we may be able to run at Christmas. Watch this space!
