Reminders
Flu Immunisations
The School Nursing Team called today to congratulate us on how well organised our flu immunisation sessions were this week. They told us that the children were sensible and respectful and an absolute pleasure to meet! There is a catch up session planned for Monday 7th December for those children who were absent for these sessions. If your child has recently joined Fern Hill or you did not get a chance to return your consent form in time, or perhaps have changed your mind and would now like your child to have the vaccination, please email the school office at: office@fernhill.rbksch.org and they will send you a consent form to complete for the catch-up session.

Home Learning Grids
Home Learning Grids for children in Year 1 - 6 are now available on the website under your child's year group page. They offer a variety of curriculum and topic linked activities for your child to chose from for their home learning this half term. Completed work is shared with the class towards the end of term during a Home Learning Show and Tell session.
School Photographs
Your child will have brought home their school photograph proof postcards this week. If you did not receive one for your child, please contact our school photographer, Kans Bahara, by email at: info@inTime-Photography.com to request your website link and passcode.
Thank you to all the families who have placed an order already. Please remember that to take advantage of free delivery to school, your order must be placed by Sunday 22nd November. Orders placed after this date will be subject to a £3 delivery charge. Processing and printing is taking longer than usual due to the lockdown so please place your order as soon as possible. Please also note the new money-saving multi-pose packages that allow you to order a variety of poses for one child or photographs of siblings.
The term dates and INSET days for the 2021/2022 school year are now available on the school website here. Please note that there are three INSET days planned before the October half term break, along with one at the start of the autumn term in 2021 and another at the start of the spring term in 2022.
After focusing on their wellbeing this week with the BBC Children in Need 'Five to Thrive' programme, children and staff had a fantastic time this morning cheering on Joe Wicks as he finished his epic 24 hour PE challenge!
Thank you so much to all the children who showed their support by coming to school in sportswear and to all the families who donated through our dedicated JustGiving page.
At the time of writing, a staggering £1,427 had been donated - the most we have ever raised for this charity. Any coins that the children brought in today will be added to this next week.
What an amazing community we are!
There’s still time to donate as we will be keeping the page open for a few more days. Please click here or use the QR below and give what you can. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. The money you donate via our page goes directly to BBC Children in Need, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Thank you.
Remembrance
On Wednesday 11th November, children marked Armistice Day with a school silence at 11.00 am and reflected, in class, about what Remembrance means to society today. As an act of Remembrance, each class created their own paper poppies, using a variety of different media, to build a sweeping whole school display along the corridor outside the Main Hall.
If your child is in Year 5 or 6, do have a look at Bali Rai's book Now or Never: A Dunkirk Story.
Based on real events that took place in World War Two, this book tells the story of 15-year-old, Fazal, from Rawalpindi in India, who lies about his age in order to enlist in the Royal Indian Army Service Corps. As a young Muslim solider, his role is to look after the mules used to carry supplies to the front line, which he performs with diligence and pride. However, Fazal’s romantic views of duty, loyalty and honour are challenged when he arrives in France during the freezing winter of 1939 and experiences the harsh realities of war.
Single use plastic...and what you can do to help!
Did you know that you can recycle things such as pens, toothbrushes and even spray bottle trigger tops and save them from landfill?! These items are not currently collected by the council’s recycling service but the great news is that they can be recycled!
We will be arranging a collection outside of school in the next few weeks and working with the Sunray Community Centre in Tolworth to recycle these items with TerraCycle. Please start collecting them at home now and we'll let you know when to bring them into school.
Kam Williams, a Fern Hill parent, is co-ordinating this. Thank you Kam! If you need anymore information, please contact her directly at: kamsoor6@yahoo.co.uk
Please see the attachments below to see what items can be recycled. All we ask is that they are cleaned and empty.
