NSPCC Number Day & Dress for Digits Mufti
Next week, on Friday 7th May, we will be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in their Number Day and raising money to help fund their vital services such as Childline — a helpline for anyone under the age of 19 in the UK, staffed by trained counsellors to support children with any issue they may have, big or small.
Number Day is all about making maths meaningful, positive and fun. To celebrate this, Friday is a ‘Dress for Digits’ Mufti day and children and staff can wear an item of clothing with a number on it or get creative with a maths or number theme. In school, the children will be taking part in Buddy’s Key Challenge and solving exciting maths puzzles against the clock with Buddy, the NSPCC’s ‘Speak out. Stay safe’ mascot.
To help raise money for the NSPCC, we’ve set up a dedicated JustGiving page for any donations you can make — please click here. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the NSPCC saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Thank you!
Fern Hill does The Daily Mile!
The Daily Mile hosted their first national event day in schools today, to get 1 million children moving across the country. All the children took part – and loved it!
The Daily Mile is a fully-inclusive, simple initiative to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances. It’s a social activity where the children run or jog, at their own pace, for 15 minutes every day and it improves focus in the classroom. You can support this initiative at home, by encouraging your child’s confidence in running and moving outside with them, out of school hours. Parents say that The Daily Mile helps children to eat and sleep better and that often they become young ambassadors for whole family fitness!
Class Assemblies
We are delighted to tell you that virtual class assemblies will be held this term. We can’t wait to celebrate the children’s work with you!
Year 1 – Thursday 1st July
Year 2 – Thursday 20th May
Year 3 – Thursday 24th June
Year 4 – Thursday 27th May
Year 5 – Thursday 1st July
Assemblies will be recorded in the classroom on the day and posted on the Google Classroom by the end of the following day for you to watch with your child over the weekend. We’ll let you know when they are ready to view. The videos will only be accessible to your child’s year group on the Google Classroom which is a secure, password protected platform. If you do not want your child to be included in the assembly, please let the school office know as soon as possible by email at: office@fernhill.rbksch.org.
