Sadly, we say goodbye to two more wonderful members of staff: Mrs Bailey-Bain and Mr Langridge. They will be hugely missed but we wish them the very best of luck as they move on to pastures new.
A huge thank you from the school office for all the lovely gifts and well wishes. Everyone is really looking forward to seeing you back in school in September!
Saturday Football
Mr Langridge and Mr Guyatt will be continuing their Saturday football sessions over the summer break. The sessions take place at Fern Hill on the Astroturf in the juniors’ playground every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:00 pm and cost £5 per player/session on a pay as you go basis. Players of all ages and abilities are welcome.
We can't believe how this year has flown by! It's had its up and downs but we hope the children have enjoyed the time they have had in school and we are all looking forward to seeing them again in September, rested and raring to go. It's going to be a busy year!
Today we said goodbye to our lovely Year 6 leavers. The Leavers' Assemblies yesterday were emotional but lots of fun — the children performed so well, for the first time in a long time! We also said goodbye to the families who are leaving Fern Hill, some of whom have been here for many years. We wish everyone the very best in their new secondary schools and hope they carry forward the values learnt and demonstrated at Fern Hill on to their exciting journeys ahead.
Looking forward to the next school year, you will have received a letter from Mr Scott, reflecting on the past eighteen months and outlining some key expectations and changes for the autumn term.
Drop off and collection
Drop off and collection times will no longer be staggered. The start and finish times of the school day are available on the website here.
School uniform & PE Kit
Our uniform policy is available on the website here. Please ensure your child has a suitable pair of school shoes to wear during the day (no trainers, sandals or boots). Trainers should be worn for outdoor PE and plimsolls for indoor PE. PE tops should be white and jackets/sweatshirts and bottoms, black with no visible sports branding or logos. There will be no more ‘PE Kit days’; children will change at school and store their PE kit in a small drawstring bag on their peg or in their locker.
Our school uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear, have advised us that the cut-off date for ordering uniform for the autumn term online or in store is 12th August. If you would like to order online but intend to collect from the Chessington store, you must make an appointment via their website here.
Jewellery
Jewellery, of any type, is not permitted in school. This includes earrings. If your child is going to have their ears pierced, please ensure this happens at the start of the summer holiday to allow sufficient time for healing before the start of next term.
Stationary
All children in Year 3 through to 6 should bring their own stationary to school, in a small, clear pencil case. A list of what stationary is needed is available on the website here.
School bags
Fern Hill book bags are available from our school uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear. Children from Year 3 up may bring a rucksack or alternative type of school bag but no larger than needed to accommodate an A4 sized book.
And finally, a word on COVID-19 testing...
Public Health Kingston have asked us to remind families to continue twice weekly lateral flow rapid testing at home over the school holidays. We would like all our families to test immediately before we return in September and have sent home a pack of test kits. You can order more online or collect them from a local pharmacy or test centre to administer at home, or have a test done at a local test centre.
Go wild for reading with the Summer Reading Challenge!
The Summer Reading Challenge runs in libraries every year. For this year’s Challenge, The Reading Agency has partnered with WWF to create ‘Wild World Heroes’, inspiring children to take action for nature and the environment alongside fostering their love of reading for pleasure. It’s the perfect summer activity to build young readers’ skills and confidence during the long break from school.
At school, we will continue to promote reading for pleasure — it would be a great start to the new school year if the children can share the books they have read when they return in September.
Click here for further information about the Challenge. A short video explaining the Challenge is also available for children to watch. If your local library is not open yet, you can register and take part online. Happy reading!
Tree Tops & Extracurricular Clubs
Bookings for Tree Tops and extracurricular after school and lunchtime clubs will continue over the summer break.
If you are booking for Tree Tops, you must complete the Tree Tops Home School Agreement, before your child's first session. Your child will not be able to attend if we do not have a completed form.
If you are booking for a school-run after school or lunchtime club, please be aware that you must pay for the club via ParentPay to secure your child's place. Once you have paid, please complete the Extracurricular Clubs Application Form. If you complete the Application Form but do not pay, your child's place is not guaranteed.
Gardening, Technokids Computing and Magpie Makes Sewing clubs are now full.
Team Points
At the end of each term, the number of Team Points each House receives is tallied according to their position (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) each week of the term.
