Reminders
Bikes & scooters - safety on site
Please do not ride scooters or bikes anywhere on the school site for safety reasons. This includes the car park and pedestrian area running between Fern Hill and The Kingston Academy. Adults and children should dismount before entering the site at the Richmond Road entrance.
Tree Tops
If your child is attending Tree Tops, we must have a completed Home School Agreement for them, before their first session. This is essential for your child’s safety and wellbeing. You can find out more about the Home School Agreement on the website here.

Young Artists Summer Show Poster
Your year group weekly news is published every Friday afternoon on your child's Home Learning Google Classroom. You should sign in using your child's school Google Account - you can find their login details in the front of their Home School Diary.
Gardening Club
There are a few places left in Gardening club which starts after the half-term break on Tuesdays after school. The club is run by Mrs Dutra and for pupils in Year 2 and above. The children learn the basics of gardening including how to use gardening tools safely. They also organise regular after school market sales for the school community to buy the produce they have helped to grow. If you would like your child to join, please email us.
Next Friday 3rd February, we will be showing our support for the NSPCC and celebrating Number Day with a fun day of maths activities. We will also be announcing a competition on Times Tables Rock Stars for the children to take part in. Although we will not be dressing up as we have in previous years (don’t worry – World Book Day and Red Nose day are just round the corner!), we would love to raise funds to support the amazing work of the NSPCC and the vital services they provide, such as Childline. If you would like to donate, please do so directly to the charity here.
Inter House Sports Tournament
Our inter-house sports tournament has begun! Every Wednesday, a different year group will be invited to take part in a match run by Mr Guyatt, our specialist PE teacher, over lunchtime. The sports will vary and the children playing will represent their own houses – Coombe, Hampton, Kingston or Richmond. Congratulations to all the Year 3 children who played netball this week and well done to the winning house, Richmond!
The schedule for the term is being planned and children will be able to sign themselves up. The tournament is open to all children and should one week be oversubscribed, names will be drawn out of a hat. We are looking forward to the teachers’ match later this term too!
Due to the proposed strike action, our parent volunteer introduction and training session scheduled for Wednesday 1st February will now be held on Wednesday 22nd February at 9:00 am. The session on Tuesday 31st January at 2:30 pm will go ahead as planned. If you reserved a place for the session on Wednesday, please look out for an email with further information. If you would like to volunteer and have not yet completed a form, please do so here.
Book of the Week
'The Octopus, Dadu and Me' by Lucy Ann Unwin
Sashi is devastated when her beloved Dadu doesn't remember her and her parents won't let her visit him in the Care Home any more. But when she visits the Aquarium to take her mind off Dadu, she meets an incredible creature - an octopus called Ian. And it seems like Ian is trying to tell her something...that he wants to escape his tank and return to the ocean.
'The Octopus, Dadu and Me' is a heartfelt story about friendship, family and grief that will definitely make you cry! Highly recommended for readers in Years 5 & 6.

Kingston Schools Swimming Gala
On Friday 20th January 2023, 4 girls and 4 boys from years 5 and 6 competed in a swimming gala held at the Malden Centre. Many local schools participated in this event such as Latchmere (our nearest neighbour), Surbiton High School, King Athelstan and Grand Avenue. It was a challenging and exciting day with fabulous results for all four strokes (breast stroke, front crawl, back stroke and butterfly) and the relay events. There were gold medals for Mazhar, Emily and Ka Yeung, and a bronze medal for Natalie. We are very proud of our team for taking on the challenge.

Girls' Basketball Competition
On Tuesday 21st January, the Year 5 and 6 girls competed in the ‘Battle for the Throne’ basketball tournament, held at TKA. Zahraa and Chloe, two of the competitors wrote: “Congratulations to the girls basketball for getting 2nd place. We won against Lovelace, Grand Avenue and St Joseph’s before we lost to Latchmere in the final. It was a challenging competition and we are all feeling really proud of ourselves.” Well done, girls, for showing great sportsmanship and for putting in huge effort on the day.
